Casa Maria — Restaurant in Carcassonne

The food is delicious. We had eight vegetable tapas and two steaks. The steaks are sold by the gram, and we picked two that were 300-350 grams each. All of the dishes were superb.

We did not find the restaurant to be overly expensive. A few reviewers complained about the prices, but France is more expensive than Spain, and we found French restaurants to be generally on the expensive side compared to the rest of Mediterranean Europe. Compared to restaurants in France, the prices were very fair.

The dishes arrived relatively quickly. We were worried about wait times after reading some of the reviews, but were pleasantly surprised when our dishes arrived promptly. I wonder if some of the negative reviews regarding service were in the early days of the restaurant. We were told that the restaurant is very new, and that the family running the restaurant needed some time to adjust to the flurry of customers.

Casa Maria is run by Maria and her husband, who cook in the kitchen behind the counter. Her brother is in charge of the service, and her older son is a waiter who helps English-speaking customers place orders. You can find her younger son playing video games on one of the counter tops most nights.

I love here!! You can find fabulous garden after going through the bar and restaurant. We had 2h before our dinner reservation and just wanted to have a drink. So we stopped in without checking any reviews. But actually we were so lucky to find here. The garden is soooo amazing, owner is kind and friendly, and also food was great too. I can understand why some people mentioned about“Maria”(maybe) but she asked us food was good or not, it seems she cared about her customers :) I also love the atmosphere and concept. Highly underrated! Quite possibly the finest meal I've ever had! Very busy and somewhat chaotic but totally unpretentious. The staff although running from place to place are very helpful and accommodating when they get a moment that is and genuinely seem to be enjoying themselves. The food is absolutely incredible! Everything was unlike anything I'd had before. The steak was cut by weight to order and perfectly cooked, aubergine that melted in your mouth, delicately baked goats cheese with honey and apple!
