Restaurant Gil — Restaurant in Carcassonne

This place offers an amazing authentic local experience. The almost hidden entrance leads to a Parisienne metal staircase that takes you down to a second entrance. The cute, small place is centered to the open kitchen and outside doors (opened in summer). You can see regular locals that come here on weekends. The chef and assistant welcomed us very kindly. The chef was super kind to our two children (no other children on the dinning room). We took the menu that offered starter, main dish and desert to choose from 3 options of each (24€ in 2022). The mains were generous big plates. Since we were a group of 8 people, we tried them all. For starters the seafood dish and fish soup were amazing. I have to say it's the BEST fish soup I've ever tried. So I really appreciated that they brought a full big pot on the side for me to take some more. For the mains, the bream and the steak were fresh first quality product. All was cooked on an open kitchen next to us with a huge cooking plate. The deserts were also generous with crepes with homemade marmalade or Catalan cream (also home-made). Do not expect any fancy terrace facing the canal nor fancy dinning interiors, here you come to eat good food together with the locals, not to make Instagram pictures. PLUS the chef speaks Catalan. What an unforgettable experience. The food was very fresh, and every single dish along with the in-house sauces were incredible. Words do not give the taste any justice. The server was very kind and professional. Chef Eddie is personable to a point where he checks on every table to make sure his diners are enjoying the food, which enhances the meal. I loved it so much I had to return with my Catalonian friend and continue to think about this place 8 months later.

If I could, I would clone this place or bring it to my hometown, but I will settle for returning with my friend next time I visit the area instead 🤩 Why take my word for it when you can go experience this wonderful location...

This was a fantastic restaurant with marvellous service. My partner and myself walked in off the street on a Saturday night without a reservation, although it was busy they set up a private table for us in the back of the restaurant where you have a great view of the master chef/ owner creating beautiful seafood dishes. We had the tasting menu and it was divine. The chef / owner is an extremely friendly and talented guy who makes you feel welcomed and feeds you well. I couldn't recommend this...
