Carcassonne's greatest attraction is the medieval castle, it's walls are 1.9 kms long and has 52 massive towers. It was the first castle to use hoardings to pour down hot liquids onto troops attempting to scale it. In 1355 even those medieval English warriors failed to capture it. It was restored by Eugene Vollet-Le-Duc at the beginning of the 19th century and is one of the most visited monuments in France.
