Le Comptoir de La Mère Germaine — Restaurant in Carpentras

We had a very odd experience. Limited menu and no outdoor seating despite near perfect weather. Some of the food was fantastic but there were serious issues with the service and the steak. We ordered a few starters to share (group of 4). Only some came out. Then we got our €95 steak. It was cooked fully well done. Like leather. We ordered medium rare. One of our party didn’t get their steak at all but was served a starter as her main. We asked the waiter what was going on but he said our steak was cooked as the chef normally does and that we got our whole order. We didn’t want to argue so let it go. We couldn’t eat our steak because it was so chewy and over cooked. Then after all our dishes were cleared away and we were considering desert the missing steak came out of the kitchen, a full 45 mins after our main meals were served. We refused it and there was a lot of confusion and back and forward between the waiter and the kitchen but no one even tried to talk to us. We speak French and English. It was very very disappointing and we really couldn’t believe what happened and initially blamed ourselves but there were too many mistakes and opportunities to fix it to ignore. We went for the advertised rotisserie but they didn’t have any on the menu and seemed short staffed. At no point did they even try to fix it but they might not have known because the waiter was that clueless. I dont understand how the chef could have thought we would order a steak for desert though, even if the waiter was useless, the chef should have questioned a rare steak order for desert and a super well done steak for 2 for main course. RUDE SERVICE, No capacity to treat guests. I arrived with my wife without a reservation. The restaurante was half full and the terrace completely empty, when we attempt to check on the terrace one guy come very nervous from inside saying no reservation we had to leave, we very kindly asked him if it was possible to have a quick lunch, but he answered back very bad that we had to leave. Just by curiosity I checked online and with was full of availability to make reservation. I made mine and came back to the restaurant. When I attempt to open the door another guy came and block it !!!!! He asked me what I was trying to do, I said I made the reservation. He got very nervous and told me it was not possible that I had to leave. He finally let me In to check on the computer and saw the reservation, he talked to me very bad and said he was not going to give us a table. Very bad moments for us that we arrived with all the expectations. I didn’t make a reservation because we decided this morning to come as it is of season and we been going to lot of Places and not problem at all.

We reserved well in advance and were looking forward to eating in the comptoir. unfortunately, in neither of 3 messages exchanged (after reservation we were prompted a day before to confirm our visit) did they mention that the day of our visit is a massive medival wine festival in the village.

not only there was only a small choice menu available, but we felt unwelcome and hasted through the visit with inexperienced staff who did not know neither about the food offered nor about the signature cocktail or wine choice.

i guess the experience would be much better in calmer circumstances, as the view is stunning and proper menu...
