Nemossos Café — Restaurant in Clermont-Ferrand

We went for breakfast and ordered a “formule de petit déjeuner.” The food was good, and the view of the cathedral added to the experience, making it a pleasant enough start to our day. If this had been all, I would have left satisfied, but unfortunately, the service changed my perspective.

When they brought the coffee, a leaf fell into my cup. Politely, I asked if it could be replaced, but the waiter responded, “It’s just a leaf.” Seeing no willingness to replace it, I let it go—it wasn’t a big deal. However, in my honest opinion, given the profit margin on coffee, replacing it would have been a small gesture that would have left us feeling valued as customers.

But things got worse. Another waiter came by asking if we had ordered an americano, and we said no. A little later, the same waiter who hadn’t wanted to replace my coffee returned, saying they had my replacement coffee. Oddly, it was the americano that no one had ordered.

It would have been fine if they’d simply offered it as a mistake and asked if we wanted it, as we had ordered a latte. Instead, they acted as if they’d gone out of their way to do us a favor, which was insulting.
