If you find yourself wandering the picturesque streets of Colmar, do not miss the chance to visit the Kitsune & Tanuki Tea House, a hidden gem that provides a truly magical experience! From the moment I stepped inside, I was enveloped by the warm and cozy ambiance, designed thoughtfully with authentic Japanese decor and serene tatami floor seating. (don’t worry, they have tables and chairs too!) It instantly transported me to Japan and left me in awe.

Let's talk about the star of the show—the matcha! Without a doubt, their matcha is the absolute best in France. It's rich, vibrant, and bursting with flavor—evidence of the meticulous sourcing from their numerous trips to Japan. The passion for quality is palpable, and I was lucky enough to speak to the owners as they shared some delightful stories and even photos from their recent international adventures. One of them kindly prepared a hojicha latte for me to sample, but honestly, I could have stayed all day just savoring their exquisite beverages!

The friendly owners are a testament to the heart and soul of this cafe. Their extensive knowledge about tea and genuine kindness truly made my visit special. They took the time to explain the nuances of each drink, ensuring that every customer leaves feeling appreciated and enlightened.

To top it all off, I couldn’t resist trying their black sesame mochi, which was incredibly fresh and of the highest quality. Every bite was a celebration of taste and texture, complementing the wonderfully crafted drinks.

With exceptional service, an inviting atmosphere, and the finest tea selections, Kitsune & Tanuki Tea House was a delightful experience. This charming cafe should be on everyone's must-visit list when in Colmar. I can't wait to return and immerse myself in their world of tea again and again! Highly...

We stopped by this Japanese Tea House on a rainy day, and it was the perfect cozy escape. We had the ramen with French pork (not chashu) in a soy milk broth — rich, creamy, and exactly what you want on a chilly day. The special tea called “Night at Versailles” was amazing — beautifully aromatic, slightly sweet, and so comforting.

Their caramel pudding is adorable (and kind of funny to eat) — it instantly puts you in a good mood. The interior is IG-worthy, with lovely décor and a few traditional Japanese-style floor seats that make it feel authentic and peaceful.

In the stillness of the garden, a Kitsune revealed itself — a messenger of spirit and change, reminding us that magic often hides in plain sight.

The staff were so friendly and sweet! I tried speaking to them in Japanese since I don’t speak French — but in the end, we all switched to English and laughed about it 😂. Such a warm, welcoming place — we’d definitely come back again! Note: Location is just 2 min walk from "Colmar...

Kitsuné & Tanuki is a a delightful spot in Colmar that feels like stepping into a slice of Japan. For some, the old town evokes strong Ghibli vibes, and it’s no wonder, as it inspired one of the studio’s iconic films. Nestled in a beautiful, welcoming house that immediately reminded me of the Halliwell sisters' home, this teahouse is a temple to matcha, but in the most accessible, cozy way possible. You can choose between sitting in a spacious area with regular tables and chairs or fully embracing the Japanese experience on the tatami mats. Naturally, we went all in and chose the tatami space. Their matcha is top-notch, and the adorable animal-shaped pudding cakes are both delicious and Instagram-worthy. Whether you're a matcha lover or just curious, this is a lovely spot to take a break and soak in a peaceful, almost magical atmosphere. A must-visit if you’re passing through Colmar.
