After a delightful experience at L’Opera in 2023, we eagerly anticipated our return visit this year.
While the food maintained its excellent standard, the service, although courteous, did not quite match the exceptional experience we had last year. Our waiter was pleasant enough, but lacked the engaging humour and joyful demeanour that left such a lasting impression on us previously.
The cabaret performance, unfortunately, was inconsistent, resembling a curate’s egg—good in parts.
The primary issue was the abundance of dancers whose overall performance felt uninspired and lacked finesse.
The outdoor central stage was overcrowded with performers, whose movements appeared more clumsy than graceful compared to last year’s polished routines. Although the female vocalist delivered a strong performance, the inclusion of "furries" felt unnecessary and somewhat unsettling. The full-head masks worn by these performers detracted from any potential character they might have added. In one particularly awkward moment, a performer—apparently hindered by the mask—stumbled and fell while attempting to ascend the stage stairs, creating an uncomfortable scene for both the audience and the performer.
A significant disappointment was the overshadowing of the trapeze artists, who were the highlight of last year’s show.
This time, their remarkable and artistic performance was marred by the presence of a large group of dancers who distracted from the main act.
The focus that should have been on the talented trapeze duo was instead diverted to the less impressive dancers, detracting from what could have been an awe-inspiring display.
Moreover, the overpowering low-frequency bass significantly disrupted the ambiance of the show, further diminishing the overall experience.
In conclusion, while L’Opera continues to excel in its culinary offerings, the cabaret this year fell short of the high standard set previously. There is a pressing need for improvement in the production and staging of the performance.
We hope that next year will see a return to the exceptional standard we have come to expect...
Read moreWe arrived on a frigid night and could not understand why they would seat all 14 of its patrons outside in 10 degree Celsius weather. This part made no sense to me. It was freezing and on top of that, there were not enough heat lamps for every table.
We were also greeted (that's putting it nicely) by a woman who obviously didn't want to be there and pretty much seemed as though she hated her job. We caught her rolling her eyes a few times as well as trying to imitate the dancers on stage. I can see why she was put in the role of hostess as opposed to a dancer. Though to tell you the truth, she should really have been in the kitchen given her piss poor attitude. I would have given her some room for her arrogance if she were at least above average in appearance but sadly this was not the case.
Onto the food, the menu was pricey for what it was. It was all over the place and there was no real cohesion. They tried to do some French, Italian, some seafood and sadly and unfortunately, fusion Asian food. The food was OK at best. We pretty much went with the dishes that we hoped would be hard for them to mess up. It was really hard to eat cold food on a freezing patio. I would never wish this upon even my worst enemies.
Now the entertainment, where do I start. These dancers were just plain tacky from their outfits (one of the outfits had a garbage theme) to their dance moves. These dancers would definitely never be a backup dancer for Rihanna or Beyoncé, this much is certain.
All in all, if I had to summarize my experience, I was disappointed. I was at the very least hoping to see some high end male and female escorts for some entertainment as this was mentioned by some of the previous reviewers. But even they, had the common sense not to attend this establishment on a cold evening....

Our trip to the south of France was wonderful—until our experience at L'Opera in St. Tropez... My husband and I went for the ambiance and music, expecting a memorable evening. Sadly, what we got instead was overpriced food, a flashy but underwhelming show, and a shocking experience with the bill. We are usually generous with our tipping and told the waiter that we would like to leave $100 USD tip for the service. The waiter seemed very happy, and we signed the bill quickly as we had plans to meet friends. Only later did we discover the receipt had been jacked up with extra items we did not order and a $400 USD tip—far beyond what we had approved.
When we returned to address the issue, the manager referred us to Yohan, who promised that the overcharge would be refunded. He assured us it was a simple fix and even provided his contact information for follow-up. Over several weeks, Yohan continued to insist that the bank transfer would come through. But after we returned home to the U.S., communication became sparse, and soon, we heard nothing at all.
In the end, we had to work with AMEX to resolve the overcharge, submitting all evidence of the mischarge and communications. To our surprise, we learned that management at L'Opera denied the refund request, despite all prior assurances.
This disappointing and dishonest handling of a simple overcharge left a negative impression of L'Opera.
L'Opera was the only restaurant in the South of France that turned out to be such a...
