You'd expect a place opposite the station to be high priced and low quality but this is the opposite. 1st visit late at night on recommendation of friend who lived in Lille for 4 years. Great service, Irish and French coffees were amazing. A work of art in beer glasses with whipped cream but mostly, it seemed, whiskey or cognac. I was tempted by a mervilleux and I'm glad they brought 4 spoons, it wasn't mean portioned. Chocolate, cream and maringe delight.
Next day we came in to meet up after shopping for a beer and stayed for lunch, it gets quite busy from about noon until after 2pm when it calms down again. Delicious omelette Lilloise, the pizza-like flammekueche maroilles was delicious and the moules excellent. Goes without saying that the frittes were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle.
Service was good and it's a large place so not cramped and easy to get seated even at peak times.
Prices are very reasonable too. You won't be disappointed.
Perfect place to start and end your visit to Lille if...

When she entered again, the man waiting alongside us said something to her about waiting for so long and wanting to eat. Afterward, we were all seated. We waited another 25 minutes for the server to come back so we could order. We ordered the Fish and Chips. The breading was soggy just under the surface and very chewy overall. This restaurant is not worth over an hour wait for Fish and Chips and beer. The fries were okay, and the presentation was fine, but the...
