Well, Im writing this review 3 hrs after our visit for lunch, and my stomach is still upset. As a tourist, maybe diarrhea is one of the last things that you'd like to have over your journey.
Some positive points : First, the concept of the restaurant is pretty interesting. Old decoration & narrow underground could give you a feeling of nostalgia.
However, they failed in both taste & service. Maybe they are now too comfortable with many reviews in the past. It was very disappointing. As a tourist, you would expect some nice culinary experience in Lyon.
Chez Grand-mère only gave me diarrhea experience. They have lunch set meal : starter / main / dessert at 26.9 euro, basically dessert free. But we were not even curious about dessert by the time when we received the main course since we couldn't half finish the meal.
Poached eggs in salad will be served with egg shells. I wonder how a chef can make poached eggs with shells in it.
The chicken was not fresh and chewy, and the pork sausage was very piggy (smelled too strong). Maybe that's why I had to run back to the hotel for the toilet😅.
I believe a good dish comes from good ingredients, but this place has failed from the basic.
Also, it was a very unpleasant experience, like the other reviews say - you can definitely see that they allocate Asian customers at the corner or right in front of the toilet. We (Swiss asian) asked to change the seats, but the staff said no, without any excuse, although there were plenty of other seats! It was a very odd experience eating while you could hear others peeing & flushing. 😳
We will not let them ruin our first day in Lyon and find some other positive experience. However, if you are not a French speaker, a foreigner - especially not a Caucasian - and a tourist, it's not worth for 60 € to get the experience we encountered. Or maybe it's their strategy, only wants racist customers.
There are just too many better options in Lyon, so my humble suggestion to you all is to...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chez Grand Mère, and I must say that it was truly a heavenly experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and attentive service. The food was outstanding, and the price to quality ratio was unbeatable. I don’t normally say this but If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
The ambiance of the restaurant was cozy and inviting, with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The decor was charming and had a distinct French flair. The service was impeccable, with the staff going out of their way to make me feel at home.
The food was simply exceptional, with each dish prepared with the utmost care and attention to detail. The portions were generous, and the flavors were exquisite. I especially enjoyed the traditional Lyonnaise dishes, which were cooked to perfection. With the meals served hot and fresh - the refined flavors come to play - making every bite one of a kind. As a foodie, I must say it is one of the rare times I can’t get enough of the next bite.. You simply don’t get tired of it
What makes Chez Grand Mère truly special is the fact that they have mastered the craft of le « juste milieu », finding the perfect balance between quality, quantity, and price. This unique gem in Lyon is a must-try for anyone looking for an authentic French dining experience.
Overall, Chez Grand Mère is an exceptional restaurant that exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic French dining experience in Lyon. With its exceptional food, warm hospitality, and unbeatable price to quality ratio, it makes for THE gem to not miss...
Read moreTake away: Stay away! the atmosphere is nice but it's a tourist trap: food is either tasteless or bad, and they ask for tips (details below). I rarely post negative reviews but this one deserve it. We were looking for a nice restaurant in Vieux Lyon for our last night in the city. We found this place that looked promising. The atmosphere is great and the service was nice. The food was not. I ordered an aperetif maison: violet + procetto. Could have been good but they put way too much sirop so it was not drinkable. We initally took a formula (3 courses). We ordered the eggs as an appetizer. That was ok but nothing special: too much garnish and sauce and incredibly hot! The main entrees however were awful. I had the chicken: it looked boiled and was tasteless. My friend took the veal, the sauce was fade and the meat was way too cooked and leathery. I almost did not touch my plate and we asked for the check before dessert (I NEVER do that). They made us pay for the full formula and - as a big RED FLAG for tourist trap - the screen was suggesting to add a 10-20% tip. (Service is ALWAYS included in France. If you want to tip, should be a few euros and not something asked on a screen.). Back to the hotel, my...
