First impressions- modern, hipster, comfortable vibe… if there is such a thing?
Rating this café four out five stars because I did not have breakfast or lunch during my visit. I visited on a Sunday mid-afternoon and the location was fairly busy with the brunch crowd. Since it was my first time here I walked around and took a look at the place and all it had to offer. I was pleasantly surprised to see the London, US influence to the options that they offered compared to most café’s in France. They had a self-service water dispenser, blended drink options, and even proper lemonade (citronade), not the limonade that is typically an iteration of Sprite or 7-up. I ordered a flat white, and was again surprised to see a familiar roaster being used, Placid. The flat white was actually better than I expected since I was used to what was being served at Slake (for some reason I don’t care for the coffee there, although they use some of the roasters I prefer). They provide you with brown sugar in packets and offer a variety of different milks they could meet individual preferences.
Food options include a variety of pastries, sandwich options (presume they change daily, none was mentioned specifically), and for breakfast (served Monday thru Sunday 8h-1130h), (eggsy, oeuf brouillé ou au plat bacon, champignons, et café filtre ou thé au choix pour €11; petit déj, baguette fraiche beurre & confiture, yahourt granla maison, et café filtre ou thé au choix pour €8; pancakes $ sirop d’erable café filtre ou thé au choix pour €9).
The ambiance was nice and had a comfortable feel to it. I question the comfortability of some of the seating for a long period due it being pretty flat and either thin, or no cushion at all. Overall, the décor was quite nice with the rustic wood look for most of the tables (see pictures). The location has Wi-Fi but it is not available on the weekends. Staff is friendly and helpful, most speak a little English from what I could gather. There is a unique little courtyard that is pretty airy towards the back of the café that offers some fresh air while you sit and enjoy your coffee or pastry. The front entrance has patio style doors that slide open offering a nice breeze to flow throughout, making it nice on a warm day.
Enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back again. This has the potential to become our new favorite café in a city full of great cafés. Diploid offers an excellent blend of beverages, snacks, and food that many cafés in Lyon do not offer. Whether it is something hot, cold, sweet or savory, they seem to have something to meet...
Read moreHad a tea with a friend… what a horrible service and attitude of servers working there! But ok if I don’t take in consideration their attitude and arrogance… we waited for for our drinks for a while (40 min), my friend paid for a coconut milk in her beverage but they brought her drink with regular milk… she couldn’t realize it right a way ( matcha has a strong flavor that takes over ) but only after getting sever reaction to lactose 2 hours later! Lets be honest, the place were not busy at all! On top of all u can see a server placing her coat on kitchen table where they will prepare food! Is it normal practice? I mean keep waiting ur costumers for 40 minutes for just a tea while the place is half empty ? To serve a regular milk instead of coconut one? Place your outside clothes on the kitchen? Very disappointed! Be careful if you are going to eat or...
Read moreWe had brunch at Diploid in Lyon and were thoroughly impressed! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a trendy yet relaxed vibe that made it the perfect place to unwind on a weekend morning. The staff were friendly and attentive, striking just the right balance between professional and personable.
The brunch menu was creative and well-curated, with high-quality ingredients and beautifully presented dishes. We particularly enjoyed the balance between sweet and savoury options – everything was fresh, flavourful, and clearly made with care. The coffee was excellent too, rich and smooth – a great complement to the meal.
Overall, Diploid offers one of the best brunch experiences we’ve had in Lyon. It’s a spot that gets everything right: great food, great service, and a great setting. We’ll definitely be...
