This restaurant was one of the highlights of my trip through France. I still can't believe that it is one individual who worked every aspect of the kitchen upon my visit. It is important to note that during dinner service, O'Bidul only sat approximately 12-16 people, so it is important to make a reservation (DO IT, SO WORTH IT). Starting with the atmosphere, the establishment was clean, there was enough space between guest, the decorations were modest and all guest have the ability to look over to watch the chef cook. When the chef finishes one job (cooking, serving, etc..) for one group, he will then serve you with kindness. The menu is small and in French (naturally) but to any traveler, the chef is patient and will translate in English. It is worth mentioning the kindness of the chef, always sporting as smile and full of giddiness. EVERY DISH was beyond incredible (honestly best I ever had). The FOOD felt UNIQUE, LOCAL AND FRESH. My girlfriend and I made point of ordering different dishes from the menu to then share, and boy, we couldn't help but "splurge". I use the term splurge loosely as the food was really well priced. Any young couple travelling through Europe will not leave O'Bidul thinking they overspent. I think my bill was a approx 70 euro, which included two apps, two entrees, dessert and two drinks. Our entire dinner was probably two hours long. It could have been much shorter but my partner and I wanted to savor the experience. Whilst paying for dinner, we learned the chef used to work at a 2 Michelin star restaurant, and he loves what he currently is doing. This was felt during the entire experience, and if I ever find myself back in Marseille, I will most definitely be going back. I have already begun telling friends who are travelling to France to have dinner chez O'Bidul. Thank you for the...
Read moreSuch an amazing place! Great food, great value of money. The best food I had in France and one of the best out of European cuisines (living in Europe for 25 years so far). As much as I don’t wish to come back to Marseille I would do that just to eat O’Bidul’s food. He is such a cute guy. Runs whole place by himself and I did not wait for food more than 10 minutes. Actually, in my 32 minutes visit I managed to order, go to bathroom, eat and pay for the meal. I definitely recommend to make a reservation if you want to be sure you will have a pleasure to eat there but if you cannot just try your luck (like me) and come for opening. The food I got was the one of the best ones in my life and it costed only 16 euro! He could easily charge 3 times more based on quality. I think the only thing the place does not have is a view but you can watch a chef when he is cooking! And place is still located in old town. Please stay...
Read moreHole in the wall serving a small menu of seasonal dishes. We had the butternut pumpkin soup with egg, and fried cheese in filo dough skin (they only have 2 starters on the menu) - both very yummy and the best we've had in France so far. For mains, we had salmon and beef (also the only two on the menu). The salmon was cooked to perfection (slightly crispy skin, not fully cooked through, very tender), although I find the sauce (just lemon juice and butter) way too sour. Would still recommend it though. I find the beef in France to not be very good compared to steaks in the US/Japan, so I wouldn't recommend any beef in France. The beef at this place is no exception.
Highly...
