Whilst staying in the town we decided to visit, but we expected to be a very nice restaurant – the reviews are generally very good.
The majority of our party did enjoy their food, which is very reassuring! The service was generally quite good too, and food prepared very quickly.
I personally have coeliac disease, and I have requested that they share with me. What on the menu can be gluten-free or is gluten-free (at the bottom of the menu, it says to ask for allergens et cetera so I did this). The young man serving us was happy to help, but unfortunately it does seem that the staff had no idea what gluten actually is. I was told that I could have the majority of things on the menu – including pasta, which she specifically told me is fine.. when I explained I can’t have pasta because it contains gluten, and he said ‘no it’ll be fine’ I assume this is just a misunderstanding, so I ordered a salad anyway, just to be safe. I requested that the salad had the croutons removed because obviously I can’t have that. The description of the salad was ‘Caesar, style salad with grilled chicken and bacon’ Again before ordering, I did check that this will be safe for me and I was reassured over and over again that it would be, but when it came out, it was topped with breaded chicken. Obviously, I unfortunately had to dispute this and explained that I cannot eat this meal because it has breaded chicken- to which I was told ‘ no, you can eat that’ again, I had to explain that I can’t because it is breaded and bread contains gluten, and so does the flower there is no doubt in the coating. Thankfully, the waiter did happily go and check with the kitchen staff and replaced my meal.
I just wanted to leave this review, because if there is anyone else looking for places safe to eat if you are coeliac, then please just be super super cautious when you go to restaurants because there is always the risk of language barrier and the general lack of understanding of what coeliac disease is
Unfortunately, I have this same issue across-the-board in France, but we love the country so I will never stop coming back! It just seems that there is not much education...
Read moreA cross between American-style diner and a British pub serving large portions of below-average food at a premium price. We had 3 mains and drinks for around £100. Food was tasteless. Cocktails way to sweet and hardly with any alcohol. Portion sizes large. Staff friendly but struggling: received different food than ordered (didn't bother to return, as waited about an hour!). Burgers, that were both supposed to be "medium", came as overcooked and undercooked. Salads taste like ready pre-packed leaves (dry and bland). Place is best avoided. There are virtually hundreds of alternatives within a short...
