Al Vecchio Forno — Restaurant in Nice

This restaurant came highly recommended by our local photographer as her favorite spot, and it’s easy to see why. The location is unbeatable—right by the water—and if you arrive just before sunset, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking view. Menton truly offers one of the most beautiful and peaceful sunsets.

Shortly after we arrived, the place quickly filled up, a clear sign of its popularity. We ordered the clam pasta, Napoleon pizza, and squid salad. Each dish was well seasoned and carried an authentic Italian flavor.

It feels very much like a family-run restaurant, and the warm, genuine hospitality makes the experience even more special. During our dinner, the staff surprised a guest with a birthday cake, complete with music and a playful dance—such a heartwarming touch that added to the inviting atmosphere.

The food was good and came out very quickly. Unfortunately, I received very poor service here. I came for dinner on a Sunday and was completely ignored by multiple waiters & waitress. Then I was seated without a menu and I sat there without any service or even acknowledgement from anyone for 30 minutes. When I tried to ask them if I could order they walked away from me in a hurry. I had to get up and find another server to order anything. The wine I ordered never came. When I ordered water, they brought out a carafe but no cup to drink from. We came here for a takeaway pizza. The staff were not helpful at all. At first we were told that they would not do takeaway, then they promised to have 2 simple pizzas ready in 20 minutes. 40 minutes later we asked if there was news on our pizzas and were told: no. We spoke in Italian, by the way. So after some more time we asked a different server once again and were told that the pizzas had been waiting for us.
