A Deep Disappointment in Disguise

I had high hopes walking into this restaurant, encouraged by the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, what followed was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve had in recent memory.

The Tagliolini à l’espadon was utterly underwhelming—bland, uninspired, and lacking even a hint of the richness or finesse you'd expect from Italian cuisine. It left me questioning whether those who praised it have ever dined at a truly authentic Italian restaurant.

The catch of the day, a tuna dish, arrived without any seasoning or sauce to lift its flavor. It was dry, forgettable, and felt more like an afterthought than a signature offering. A plate this plain doesn’t belong in a restaurant that claims culinary ambition.

The only dish that showed some promise was the warm potato and octopus salad. While palatable, it was far from unique—I've had better versions elsewhere at half the price.

To be fair, the service was warm and attentive. The staff did their best to elevate the experience, but no amount of hospitality can compensate for such poor execution in the kitchen. Frankly, it’s time for serious changes behind the scenes—starting with the chef.

Disheartening, overpriced, and gastronomically lifeless. I won’t...

As usual we were late to get out for dinner, always fatal in France as everything closes so early. Wandered around the port area looking for something nice, happened upon Tonys by accident and so glad we did. From the welcome to the end of the meal we were so pleasantly surprised. Having done a few reviews of various restaurants there are veey few that I tend to remember the dishes I've had but Tonys was pretty special. Started with buffalo mozzarella, a classic, and a lovely artichoke salad which is quite rare to find and something that my Italian cousin had made for me but have never seen in a restaurant. We followed this with classic pasta alle vongole, I later found out the pasta is freshly made and explained why it seemed that bit more special. One of our party had the mixed dessert but this was just too much for everyone else but would have loved to have been able to have some as looked amazing. Only slight disappointment was the cafe macchiato at the end, unfortunately the French just do not do coffee. Of course the Spritz's were amazing. Well worth the money and would recommend to anyone wanting simply made authentic Italian food. Just as it should be, no...

We had a good dining experience here. It’s my second time visit. This place combines delicious food, exceptional service, and stunning views. The service here is truly exceptional. You can feel that it is a family-owned business. The staffs were friendly, attentive, and always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that your dining experience is as enjoyable as possible. And with amazing sea views both inside and on the terrace, the atmosphere is simply unbeatable. Food was not that crazy (less spices added to dishes) but you can feel the quality of the fresh products especially seafood). Most of the dishes were missing some green halo (veggies) otherwise would have been perfect! Despite the high quality of the food and professional services, the prices are somewhat reasonable. All in all, if you're looking for a great dining experience that combines good food, amazing services, and breathtaking views, this restaurant is an absolute...

One of the best restaurants in Menton. We have now added Tony’s to our favourites. Everything was delicious the pasta to the delicious melt in your mouth steak. The Service was welcoming and friendly. They accommodated us at short notice and were super friendly and helpful throughout the night. This husband and wife team have poured their heart into this restaurant and the food and you can tell when you eat there. Located in the heart of the old town less than a minute to the beach with great views in the bustling centre of Menton. The zucchini flowers were delicious, the clam pasta and the steak and potatoes were exceptional. Don’t forget to try the lemon cello tiramisu if it’s available.

A nice little restaurant with a view of the marina and the sea. The service is exemplary with two or three attentive serving staff. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. My wife had a risotto with sea urchin sauce and algae meal. Sounds creative but rather tasteless. Personally, I chose beef tartare with shaved truffles. It was inedible. The meat was full of tendons and could not be chewed even though it was ground. When I returned the plate, I was told that it was the first time they had heard that criticism. I love steak tartare and have eaten it in many countries, including France, but this one was the worst. At least they didn't charge us for the dish.
