Boulangerie Roy Le Capitole — Restaurant in Nice

Without question this is the best boulangerie in Nice, if not in the south of France. Okay, maybe the croissants are the best in the entire country. I’m not joking - Monsieur Roy takes pride in creating baked goods in the traditional manner and his efforts make for an array of superior baked goods. Madame Roy is equally well suited at the front of house, always kind and knowledgeable as she creates a heartwarming experience. It’s a joy to buy from this establishment. If this helps: I refuse to wait in line for any reason. By and large there’s nothing to be gained by standing in line when there may be equal products being sold down the street. This is a lovely traditional bakery with a wide variety of artisanal breads and pastries. The croissants here are perfect. So flaky (I mean, look at those layers), but also soft and light as air. The pain au chocolat and the pistachio pastry are absolutely transcendent. Came here every day and was lucky enough to get still warm baguettes! They were super light and crispy on the outside and soft with a beautiful open crumb on the inside. Everything we tried here tasted amazing. Absolutely one of the best bakeries we visited during our 3- week France trip in September. We went to this bakery 2 days in a row. The last day of our trip, we went to the bakery before opening and waited outside because I really wanted to buy a few baguettes and croissants before our flight. The baguettes were still warm and I almost cried because I was full of joy and it was a special moment for me. It's not easy to get fresh artisan baguettes in the USA.
