La Chamade Pizzeria — Restaurant in Nice

Food was great, went for a calzone and it ticked all the boxes - well filled and the base was delicious.

Deserts were lackluster, small slice of tart around 1" wide at the wide end with cream from a spray can. Had the lemon tart, sweet and inoffensive.

Where this place fell down was on service. Although I can speak French (enough to go through the whole meal start finish without having to resort to English) I noticed a difference in service between me and local diners. Small things - plastic tumbler instead of wine glass, no checks if I wanted anything during the evening, pretty much ignored apart from order, delivery, tidy up, and bill.

We ordered take out and they have a menu on the wall but a couple was hogging it and taking a long time to decide so I went in to get a menu. The guy taking orders tells me the menu is outside and I said sure but a couple has been standing in front of it trying to decide for 10 minutes, all he said was sorry. So after that he goes out and asked them if they want to order they finally do and I order my pizza. The pizza is good not the best I’ve had but for the price good. We also got a salad no salad dressing came with it and it took about 45 minutes of wait time to get our food. Visited twice, once for a carry-out and once for sit-in. Pizzas are Neapolitan style wood fired and as good as any we had in southern Italy. The restaurant was full when we arrived as we hadn’t booked but we were told to come back in twenty minutes or we could sit in an adjacent pasta cafe. We decided to eat in the cafe which is a no nonsense local place. The owner was a character and was very chatty even though his English was as bad as our French, we still managed to communicate with a few words of Italian thrown in for good measure!
