We recently dined at Di Più, and while the evening started off well, the experience unfortunately declined as the meal progressed.
The Good: Upon arrival, we were greeted warmly by a very friendly hostess who immediately made us feel welcome. We were seated as soon as we got there, and she even allowed us to choose the table we preferred, which was a nice touch. Her professionalism and attentiveness stood out, especially later on in the evening.
The Not-So-Good: However, things took a turn once we were seated. It took nearly 30 minutes for our server to acknowledge us. When the server finally came, I asked what came in the seafood pasta, as I like to know exactly what I’m ordering. The server responded that they could only explain it in French. I fully understand the language barrier as a visitor, so I politely asked if there was anyone who could help explain it in English. This simple request was met with visible annoyance from the server, who immediately walked away without addressing my question and started taking another table’s order. It felt dismissive and rude.
Thankfully, the hostess who initially greeted us returned to take our order a few minutes later. She was as helpful and accommodating as before, and I really appreciated her stepping in.
The Food: As for the food, it was a mixed experience. I ordered the seafood pasta, which, despite the initial issues, turned out to be mediocre at best. The flavors were bland.. On the other hand, my wife’s pasta was excellent—perfectly cooked, rich, and flavorful. It’s a shame that the inconsistency in food quality mirrored the inconsistent service.
Overall: Unfortunately, the poor service overshadowed what could have been a much better dining experience. While the hostess was friendly and helpful, the delay in service and the attitude of our server left a bad taste. With such a promising start, I had higher hopes, but overall, Di Più left much...
Read moreWent to Di Piu on a recommendation from our hotel. The restaurant is very popular and does not take reservations, so you have to wait in line for a table to open up. A table opened up fairly quickly and were seated at a table that was next to a potted olive tree that was somewhat in the way. When the people next to us left, we asked if the waitress could move us to that table Since we hadn't even received our drinks yet, but she refused, saying that the table was "reserved for someone else". How is that possible when the restaurant doesn't take reservations? Fine. We ordered our food which came out quickly. We ordered a pizza and a pasta dish with pesto and shrimps. The pizza was good, The pasta dish was okay- it was too rich for my taste as the pesto had cream in it, which the menu didn't specify. Before we were finished with our meal, the waitress came by to take our plates. I told her we were still working on our food, but she took my daughter's plate anyway. When we were done with our meal, the waitress came back to see if we wanted dessert. We ordered the chocolate lava cake, but the waitress told us the restaurant only had two of them and they were all sold out. Really? The restaurant of that size only has two chocolate lava cakes? She offered us other desserts that were ready made, clearly trying to get us to leave as quickly as possible. We declined the other desserts. While we were still finishing our drinks, the waitress came back with the check and asked us to pay. I have never felt so rushed and so rudely treated in restaurant. We were not ready to leave as we wanted to enjoy our last night in Nice a bit more, but the waitress clearly wanted to turn the table so we paid and left. Good food and good ambiance but horrible service at this restaurant. With so many other choices in Nice, I would not recommend this restaurant because of...
Read moreWhat an experience we've had good and bad in equal measures lol. Top tip: Book before you turn up as we learned if you are a party of over two people then expect to wait. After a long wait we were seated. Given menus then order taken for drinks first. When drinks arrived there was no ice in my glass so I asked for ice. The staff told me that the drink was very cold and that I didn't need any.... I was shocked to be told that. Anyhow, I eventually asked her again that I really would like the ice actually... After a long wait I eventually got my ice. Whilst waiting for our food the light on the table went off, the overall light was dimmed so you really needed that light to see what you were eating. Asked the staff if we could have the light, only to be told that she had changed the battery that morning and can't do anything about it, so again we got told lol. Then bread arrived with oil, we discovered there was a hair on the nozzle, so tried to get attention of the staff but got ignored, so tried to get the attention of anyone that would replace that, eventually someone with the suit caught our attention seeking, and asked the staff to replace the oil, well we never seen the bottle of oil brought back to our table again. It felt like the bottle was taken away as a punishment of pointing that out lol. So we ended up eating the bread dry. Finally the food arrived and it was delicious so all the negative experiences we were experiencing were forgiven. The portions were very big so their lasagne could be shared it was too big for one. Their pizza was over 14in but was stone baked so delicious. Spaghetti also was of a massive portion. So in all you were getting what you were paying for in taste and portions. Sitting out was relaxing and enjoyable. So will recommend this restaurant for food and ambience, service was...
