This was an absolutely fantastic restaurant that offered either a six course meal for €70 or menu items à la cart. While the six courses was a fantastic option, I am allergic to prawns and that was the main course for the evening. So, we chose à la cart items and were not disappointed!
We were provided with a pallet cleanser to start, which was a cold, watermelon, tomato basil, and balsamic soup, which was absolutely divine (5/5)! For our starter, we both got a melon and watermelon salad with fresh goat cheese, and basil topped with olives and hazelnuts (5/5). For our main course, I got the mahi-mahi with a green vegetable sauce of some kind and lightly sautéed vegetables (5/5). It was absolutely delicious and the skin on the mahi-mahi was perfectly crisp. My fiancé got veal and he says it’s one of the top 10 steaks he’s ever eaten in his life! It was so tender, so juicy, melted in your mouth, and had hints of nutmeg and cloves in the au jus, which brought out flavor stupendously (5/5). For dessert, we had the brownie with vanilla ice cream, and of course it was above and beyond. What was plated as three small pieces of brownie turned out to be the richest brownie I’ve ever had in my life with deliciously light and fluffy piped chocolate mousse next to it and shards of brownie crisp on top with the smallest dollop of salted caramel. it was absolutely divine (5/5)! My fiancé also got a cappuccino and a glass of cabados as his digestif.
This restaurant is easily five out of five stars, and we would recommend it to anyone who comes to Côte d’Azur!
*NOTE: While not a restriction for us, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the ENTIRE MENU was GLUTEN FREE! Super cool for those with dietary...
Read moreSpent 600euros ( including 120euro tip but don’t know why!!) with my group of friends at this restaurant. I know all the restaurants in Villefranche and I’m sorry to say but, we all thought the food was - terrible and worst and, below average at best. They’ve had the same side garnish for every dish with little to no variety or creativity for months/ years The steak was tough and tiny. The artichoke starter was one of the worst things I’ve had to swallow. All hard and horrible with a hard poach egg on top. The desert was also below average. I thought they had a good reputation but I’m afraid recently, they’ve let standards fade. The service was average too ( didn’t stop us from giving a 30% tip!) I’m all for helping local businesses, but this review is to warn people who really know and like their food that want a memorable eating experience; they won’t be impressed. Maybe I went on a bad night for them but all 8 of us thought the same. There aren’t many good restaurants in Villefranche to be honest. The best value for money is Meekong. Much better, tastier food for a fraction of the price. It rained on us and the owner and staff didn’t seem to care or try and get an umbrella or something. Don’t waste your money until standards increase enormously. I’ve eaten in the best restaurants around the world, this certainly isn’t one of them. I would rate is the 11th best restaurant in Villefranche,...
Read moreI very highly recommend this restaurant.
We took the duck and the cod for dinner.
Both tasted great, the price was right and the service was good too… a combination that is very difficult to find in highly touristic small coastal towns, specifically when the restaurant is not owned by the chef. The vichyssoise brought first was delicious as well.
We didn’t have to wait long for our dishes to come.
It is situated in one of the narrow pedestrian old town streets and is almost hidden from the beaten path. It is definitely a destination and is worth the climb!
Most of the tables are outside. At night the multitude of small lights outside contribute to the beauty and quaintness. We sat inside. It is a very old (~200 years) traditional building with high ceilings, painted in white and wooden beams beautifully renovated. One wonders how the restaurant managed to set up its tables so beautifully outside in such narrow and sloppy streets.
The facilities were clean and surprisingly spacious for such an old building.
There are no dedicated parking (narrow pedestrian roads in the old town duh!). The public parkings around were all full. The vichyssoise brought first was delicious as well. We struggled to find one at around 9PM. We went around the same loop three times before ending up parking illegally in...
