When the summer heat in Nice got a little too real, we wandered into Les Distilleries Idéales—and we’re so glad we did. Nestled in one of the lively little alleys of Vieux-Nice, this spot was the perfect escape from the sun and bustle.
We grabbed a shady seat on the terrace and instantly felt the laid-back vibe. The staff were super friendly—chatty, funny, and totally relaxed. One of them even tossed in extra ice cubes for our drinks with a smile (honestly, that little gesture made our afternoon).
We kept things simple: just cold beers and spritzes, but that was exactly what we needed. No fuss, no pretense—just great drinks, good people-watching, and a spot to breathe. The prices were really fair too, especially during happy hour.
Inside, the decor is cool and a bit gothic, with copper tanks and painted ceilings—worth a peek if you're into that kind of character—but for us, sitting outside and soaking up the street energy was the real highlight.
If you’re wandering through the old town and need a break, we’d definitely recommend stopping here. Not fancy, just friendly and easy—our kind of place.

Read moreWe order an IPA beer and the waiter gave us a cloudy blonde, so it wasn't until I had a sip that I found out my order was wrong. When I kindly ask him if he served us the IPA he said no, you order a blonde. I explained him that I didn't because I don't usually like blonde beer so it wasn't possible to not specifically ask for and IPA. When I asked him to change it, he said no, and accused us from wanting drinks for free. He said we had a zip and we only can change them if we don't taste them first. How am I supposed to know my order is wrong if they looked the same but only taste different?! how is having a sip of a beer I hate drinking for free? I had to approach to the one that looked like the boss at the bar and he was a kinder even though he still denied me the beer I ordered, so I return the full pints of beer to the bar and say I wouldn't drink it or pay for it. After 20 minutes of coming and going they finally gave me the beer I ordered. I'll never come back, if I want to fight for a beer I'd go to Saint Patrick in Dublin, not to a bar in South...

It’s a real shame for me to have voted this fantastic atmospheric bar such a low review but it had to be done.
I experienced my first microaggresion racist experience as a tourist in Nice here. The waiter (girl behind the bar) started shouting Japanese greetings to me when I simply asked directions to the bathroom. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable and I was forced to leave afterwards.
She acted in an extremely unprofessional and borderline drunkish manner that made me feel unsafe and unwelcome. Afterwards, she started a conversation with the other patrons about speaking in mandarin which made me feel even more unsafe and uncomfortable.
I do not recommend this place if you look remotely ethnically Chinese....
