We were visiting Paris for my dad's birthday, and we thought it was a fun idea to get Haitian food as a tribute to him. I picked this place just based on Google Maps search, and I am so glad I did.We were trying to reconnect to our roots while in Paris, and this place did not disappoint. The food was great! They have a good selection of staple Haitian dishes. We had a large party so we ordered many different dishes. They were all well made and tasty. I had and loved the goat, but I also wished I ordered the fried whole fish. There are also dishes for those who are new to Haitian food and offer a good entry point. It is a decent sized place, so for us having a larger party, that was also a good thing. My only complaint was that they were understaffed the night we were there. It was a Tuesday night, so maybe they did not expect the volume. Our server was great, but I felt bad for her because she seemed stretched thin. Please go to this place and enjoy the food.

Spent 3 months in France and this place served my favorite meal. We asked the server to recommend some dishes and she brought us the mixed appetizer and a goat dish - everything was really good! Certes, je connais la cuisine antillaise, mais plutÎt martiniquais (étant métis martiniquais et ayant passé toute mon enfance là-bas) et guadeloupéen. J'ai commencé à connaßtre quelques spécialités guyanaises de par mon ex copine, mais la cuisine haïtienne (vraisemblablement trÚs proche de la cuisine guyanaise) m'était encore inconnue. Il y avait donc pas mal de spécialités à la carte dont je n'avais jamais entendu parler, sinon les quelques spécialités qui existent aussi en Martinique ou en Guadeloupe.

En entrĂ©e, j'ai dĂ©marrĂ© sur une assiette tropicale avec un petit assortiments Ă  10 euros avec accras de morue, boudin noir et crabe farci. Pour ĂȘtre franc, je misais surtout sur les accras qui m'intriguaient car dans une version un peu diffĂ©rente de celles de Martinique mais qui promettaient d'ĂȘtre vraiment bonnes si j'en croyais les dire du chanteur Gage avec la confirmation, presque Ă  contre-cƓur, d'une Martiniquaise Ă  cĂŽtĂ©. Au final, aprĂšs les avoir goĂ»tĂ©, j'ai trouvĂ© les rĂ©actions exagĂ©rĂ©es. Ces accras sont corrects mais ne cassent pas trois pattes Ă  un canard et je prĂ©fĂšre encore largement la version martiniquaise. Ils ne contiennent pas d'Ă©pices mais s'accompagnent de la sauce pimentĂ©e maison (trĂšs rĂ©ussie). Je prĂ©fĂšre personnellement un accras directement Ă©picĂ©. MĂȘme au niveau friture, il est de bonne facture mais j'ai mangĂ© mieux, je pense par exemple Ă  ceux de "Cuba Compagnie CafĂ©". Le boudin noir me rappelait dĂ©jĂ  davantage ce que j'ai mangĂ© aux Antilles mĂȘme si je garde une prĂ©fĂ©rence pour ceux du traiteur "Chez Max" dans le 20Ăšme plus goĂ»teux. En fait, ma bonne surprise, c'est le crabe farci, celui sur lequel je misais le moins, comme quoi...😅 Je ne suis gĂ©nĂ©ralement pas un grand fan de crabe mais celui-lĂ  Ă©tait redoutablement bon ! Il Ă©tait parfaitement assaisonnĂ© avec le bon goĂ»t des Ă©pices sans pour autant masquĂ© ni altĂ©rĂ© le goĂ»t du crabe encore bien prĂ©sent et qui, au contraire, s'en est retrouvĂ© sublimĂ© ! TrĂšs bonne prĂ©paration pour ce crabe farci que j'ai adorĂ© ! 😍

Pour le plat, j'ai choisi un tassot de cabri de 17 euros accompagnĂ© de ses bananes pesĂ©es, son pikliz et son riz djon-djon (il y a le choix entre le riz djon-djon et le riz collĂ© Ă  pois). Pour le coup, totale dĂ©couverte pour moi qui connais le cabri, mais pas sous cette forme, et qui ne connaissais aucun des accompagnements. Le tassot de cabri a Ă©tĂ© largement au-dessus de mes espĂ©rances ! Je l'ai trouvĂ© dĂ©licieux ! Il Ă©tait d'une grande tendretĂ© avec beaucoup de goĂ»t. La cuisson Ă©tait parfaite. Je ne sais pas si j'ai fait le meilleur choix mais j'ai rarement mangĂ© un plat antillais aussi bon. Pas de doute, il valait bien son prix. 👍 Quant aux accompagnements, j'ai donc dĂ©couvert la banane pesĂ©e que je n'ai pas aimĂ© car trop sĂšche pour moi (mais une amie guyanaise m'a confirmĂ© cette impression, c'est alors plus la façon de la cuisiner que la spĂ©cialitĂ© en elle-mĂȘme qui dĂ©rangeait), il s'agit d'une fine tranche de banane frite mais je prĂ©fĂšre encore largement les alokos dans ce que j'ai goĂ»tĂ©, que l'on peut aussi retrouver dans ce restaurant. Le riz djon-djon Ă©tait pas mal, une bonne dĂ©couverte, avec effectivement des saveurs spĂ©ciales mais pas dĂ©sagrĂ©ables. Le pikliz Ă©tait trĂšs simple et correct, pas plus marquant que cela.

J'ai terminĂ© sur un dessert que je connais trĂšs bien, un grand classique de la cuisine antillaise, le gĂąteau Ă  l'ananas ! Ce serait vraisemblablement le seul dessert fait maison (en tout cas, le seul pour lequel « maison » est mentionnĂ©), il est Ă  6 euros. Franchement, j'en ai mangĂ© des gĂąteaux Ă  l'ananas, mais celui-ci est mon meilleur gĂąteau Ă  l'ananas jusqu'Ă  prĂ©sent ! Il est ultra moelleux et parfumĂ©, bien sucrĂ© sans l'ĂȘtre excessivement, l'excĂšs de sucre n'Ă©tant pas Ă©tranger Ă  la pĂątisserie antillaise de façon gĂ©nĂ©rale. Rien Ă  dire, un dessert Ă  l'assiette trĂšs rĂ©ussi, accompagnĂ©, pour la « modernitĂ© Ă  la française » d'un pot de crĂšme chantilly qui n'est pas la plus belle et serrĂ©e des chantilly, mais...

“AU PARADIS TROPICAL : TRISTES TROPIQUES ! “

A la lecture de commentaires positifs et concordants sur plusieurs sites de rĂ©fĂ©rence, nous avions sĂ©lectionnĂ© ce restaurant “Au Paradis Tropical” pour notre soirĂ©e de retrouvailles familiales : la promesse d’une cuisine ensoleillĂ©e, mĂ©tissĂ©e de saveurs caribĂ©ennes. En fait de voyage gourmand et dĂ©paysant, notre dĂźner fut une soirĂ©e de naufrage. ArrivĂ©e Ă  19 h 30, justement pour Ă©viter le coup de feu du samedi soir en cuisine et prise de commande immĂ©diate. Las ! Il a fallu attendre une bonne heure avant que les entrĂ©es soient servies. Un assortiment de spĂ©cialitĂ©s antillaises qu’on qualifiera de correct, mĂȘme si les acras de morue n’avaient guĂšre le goĂ»t... de la morue ! Ensuite, la dĂ©ception a Ă©tĂ© Ă  la mesure de l’attente interminable qui nous a Ă©tĂ© infligĂ©e. Encore plus d’une heure avant que le plat arrive (les autres tables n’étaient pas mieux loties). Soit 2 h 30 entre la prise de commande et le service du plat : pĂ©nible et crispant. Un vrai remĂšde coupe-faim ! La “grande assiette haĂŻtienne” arrive mais erreur de service sur la garniture. Elle Ă©tait finalement destinĂ©e Ă  une autre table. Passons... Avec le colombo de poulet, on a glissĂ© carrĂ©ment dans le grand n’importe quoi. Une cuisse de poulet quelconque, grasse, d’une absolue fadeur, servie avec un pĂątĂ© de riz spongieux flanquĂ© d’une sauce noirĂątre insipide. La viande de porc sur la grande assiette haĂŻtienne, supposĂ©e ĂȘtre douce et fondante, Ă©tait surcuite et sans saveur. Aucun parfum de cuisine crĂ©ole ! Et, par-dessus le marchĂ©, le riz et lĂ©gumes commandĂ©s en dĂ©but de repas pour accompagner ce plat, avaient Ă©tĂ© purement et simplement oubliĂ©s : la cata totale... Aucune envie dans ces conditions de jouer les prolongations avec le dessert. En fait de paradis tropical, nous avons Ă©tĂ© confinĂ©s sous de bien tristes tropiques. Nous nous en sommes expliquĂ©s franchement au moment de rĂ©gler l’addition avec la responsable de l’établissement qui a admis volontiers les dĂ©faillances de la cuisine, complĂštement dĂ©passĂ©e ce soir-lĂ  par “un manque de personnel”, la raison qu’elle a invoquĂ©e et qui ne peut en aucune maniĂšre servir d’excuse pour attĂ©nuer son incroyable lĂ©gĂšretĂ©. Dans ce cas, ChĂšre Madame, on rĂ©duit la voilure, on limite le nombre de couverts de moitiĂ© et on ne laisse pas les clients s’engouffrer dans une salle de restaurant oĂč ils vont ĂȘtre piĂ©gĂ©s comme dans une nasse. Avec la certitude d’un service rĂątĂ© et que ses clients vont devoir ronger leur frein tout au long d’une soirĂ©e cahotique. Cela s’appelle tout simplement le respect...
