The offering is absolutely « LIT », I love the small cosy shop approach as well. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Paris. I’ve been stopping by on a weekly basis since the last 3 months and until today my experience at Boneshaker donuts was great. If you’d have asked about the best place where to find donuts, I’d have advised you to go to Boneshaker without hesitation.
However, I put I a one star mark because of today’s episode at the shop. I had an unpleasant exchange with the person who was in charge of the selling part, a young guy (only the 2nd time that I saw him at the shop). He seemed to be very talkative and kind of outspokken, trying to crack jokes with the clients etc.
Accordingly, when it was my turn to order, I was hesitating between two different types of donuts so I went there with a big smile on my face, in good spirits and asked politely for the recipe of the 2. For an unknown reason, the guy lost his smile and jokes. He answered me with an irked face while addressing me in a ‘’familiar’’ maner eventhough I was asking him questions politely WITH A SMILE.
Once I ordered a donut (hoppy days, my favorite one), I jockingly asked whether I could have a bigger one, to which he replied by : « You know you can ask for it with a smile and it will work !!! ». I showed him a smile, the same one I had while ordering I asked hiw whether he did not notice it. Then the guy told me with a closed face « now tell me which one do you want ». I wanted to defuse the situation and told him that it didn’t matter to me after all and that I asked for a bigger one in the first place ‘JOKINGLY’. Then I said : « All good, it does not matter » to which he replied « Things are NEVER ALL good »…
This is where I flipped the switch and addressed him seriously (which made me lose my smile) and told him firmly, yet with zero aggressiveness, that I didn’t get what was wrong and that if he was looking for problems I was not the right person to do so with because I have zero interest in it.
I am a non-violent person (against ALL types of violence) but I can not tolerate this type of behavior and I had to make my point. Then, all of a sudden he recovered his smile a bit and seemed a bit more relaxed and told me that he was not getting what was happening… Yeah, right...
Everyone can have bad days, we’re all humans after all. However, the guy seemed to be having a great one… with other clients at least while addressing them in a cool and professionnal manner. I don’t want to start enumerating the possible reasons explaining his behavior towards me because it would be time wasting…
Still, after that disagreeable moment, I had a quick and charming chat with a lady with blond hair who was upstairs and was just coming down. I congratulated her (and her team) for all the delicious recipes.
As a consumer, when I start looking for a restaurant or place where to eat in general, I definitely pay attention to feedbacks about food quality. But the experience is something that is at least as important as food quality. Maybe I ended up getting my donut, but needless to say that this unfortunately left me with...
Read moreIn a city where every corner you turn you have class French patisserie, sometimes you just want a perfect American donut. I remember when Boneshaker Donuts first opened years ago and the dream became a reality. For some reason, as skilled as the French are in patisserie, they couldn’t make a donut to save their life…maybe it was something in the process, took to long to do it right…I dunno. One thing is for certain though, Boneshaker not only makes authentic donuts, but they make donuts that even Americans have so say “that’s an amazing donut”. You can sit inside and have a cup of coffee or you can take a donut or two “to go” and find a nice place to sit in a park or along the Seine and enjoy one of their amazing sweet creations. They have a classic OG glazed donut, a cinnamon roll, their version of a jelly donut…you really can’t go wrong in choosing, so you can get adventurous. Prices are also super reasonable at around 4 euro on average, and one donut is pretty filing and will satisfy a craving easily. They have been in business now for several years and they have remained consistent in quality, happy belly every time. Of donuts are what you are after in Paris, this is by far...
Read moreWhat can I say… they’re the best donuts I’ve ever had!!! It sets the bar really high for all other doughnut shops in the world, feels like nobody makes them as good. Light, fluffy, just the right amount of sweetness. Did I mention they are HUGE? And flavours change quite often - something in there for everyone. They also make brownies that are out of this world, and I hear the cinnamon rolls are to die for although I can never enter this shop and buy anything other than a doughnut. I love the Fluffernutter (favourite for ever), Baby Got Back (did you get from these two choices that I have a serious PB addiction? Cuz I do), cookie dough, brownie, banana bread… I could easily get one every week. They’re also completely plant-based although non-vegans could never tell 😍🌱 They sell their own cute merch, too - for fangirls like me. Finally, the owner Amanda and her staff are all lovely and they put a smile on their...
