Café Compagnon — Restaurant in Paris

Ordered the mushroom raviolo. It was bland, tasteless, and gooey, with a borderline raw egg inside. After three bites I gave up. Wife tried it and her verdict was a resounding “yuck”.

I tried to send it back but they young waiter told me that it would not be removed from our check. He told me the egg was “perfectly Cooked” and that the sell this dish every day (so how could I not like it?). He seems to have forgotten that it was me, not he, sitting at the table, eating the bland, gooey raviolo, and paying for it.

He offered a substitution, for an additional charge…I refused. Asked to talk to the manager and was told “there is no manager here today”. Disappointingly, the chef did not have the decency to come out and ask what was wrong. The hall was at 20% capacity at most, so he could have spared 2 minutes to talk to his client. Alas.

I have travelled extensively and have never encountered this level of disregard and disrespect for a paying customer at a white tablecloth restaurant.

This is a restaurant that’s trying very hard to be something it’s not, i.e. charging way too much for the quality (and quantity) that’s on offer.

€24 for a sloppy tagliatelle - bland at that, and five mouth fulls - if that.

I get gourmet and small quantities but this isn’t what this was.

I left hungry and disappointed, and astonished that when I gave feedback about how my meal was when I was asked, I was told the prices are justified due to the restaurant rates and that I should have had a starter and maybe I would have been fuller.

If I was a chef I would be embarrassed to dish this up.

The response to my polite feedback was to ask if we wanted the bill. Pretty appaling customer service - if there was even half decent customer service, they would have made more from us with our dessert order and tip.

Last night I ate here with a friend who normally frequents this restaurant. I have to say that I was disappointed. The service was slow, probably because it was very busy and a little late, but still, slow service isn't enjoyable. That being said, the servers were very nice and lovely to deal with. Then there was the disappointing food. It all looked amazing, but tasted mostly bland. I wanted to take a desert hoping that it would redeem the rest of the meal, but decided not to because we noticed that the table next to ours, who finished their main just as we arrived, waited about 30 minutes before they got their deserts. However, the atmosphere of the restaurant and the decor take top marks. It was a very pleasant place environment to eat in. All that being said, I won't be going back to...
