We were in Paris for three days and on Saturday evening we decided to enjoy a cheese platter with a glass of wine. Google showed this restaurant as open until midnight, so after a long day of walking we made the extra effort to walk another 30 minutes to get there.
To our surprise, when we arrived at 10:30 PM we were told, in a rather unfriendly and dismissive way, that the kitchen was closed and no food would be served. We explained that we only wanted cheese and wine – something that clearly doesn’t require a running kitchen – but were refused again. The staff even told us we should have called before coming, which makes no sense if your official hours say you’re open until midnight.
What shocked us the most was not just the refusal, but the complete lack of hospitality or empathy. We were tourists, ready to spend money, and instead of being welcomed we were turned away with rigidity and indifference. For a place that promotes itself as a restaurant open until midnight, this is misleading and very disappointing.
Paris is full of wonderful spots with welcoming staff – unfortunately, this was not one of them. A truly...
Read moreDelightful! Don't underestimate how filling are the selection of cheeses. I had the board of 8 cheeses (from soft goat's cheese through to hard cow cheese). The set of pieces might look small when they arrive but add a lovely bit of baguette to each and by the 8th you are very full.
All the customers were French, but the person who chose the cheese spoke English and described each cheese on the plate. Accompanied by honey on the side and walnuts to enhance the taste. I recommend sitting at the bar at one end of the serving area (left or right) to watch the process of selecting/cutting the cheeses - there must be about 30 available (from "runny" to very blue). If you know your cheeses I'm sure they would adjust the selection to suit you. We arrived about 9pm on a Tuesday in November and we got the last 2 seats, so get there early or...
Read moreFor a bar named Formaticus the cheeses were just average and on top the portions were small for the price. But the thing that merits the one star is the service. The service was abysmal at best. When we reported missing items from the order to the waiter he replied « we are busy but if you really want it we can get it for you »
I had made a reservation for outside specifically but seated us inside when there were free tables outside . The waitress replied “ all reservations are inside, when I asked about the tables outside that were free , she replied oh they are reserved” how can the outside tables be reserved if all reservations are for indoors. Only after I argued we got a table outside.
I speak French and all communications were in French so it is definitely not a language issue. Overall definitely do not...
