L’Atelier Entrecôte & Volaille Réaumur – A Second Encounter with a Familiar Star
There is something inherently dangerous about revisiting greatness. The memory of perfection casts a long shadow, one that even the most promising establishments can struggle to escape. And so, it was with both anticipation and caution that we returned to L’Atelier Entrecôte & Volaille—this time at its Rue Réaumur location.
The evening began with a stumble. Despite having a reservation, we found ourselves waiting for 15 minutes at the door, watching as others were seated ahead of us. It was not malice, merely mismanagement, but such moments linger, setting an unwelcome tone. Once seated, the delay continued; the staff took their time coming to our table, though the warmth of their eventual reception softened the edges of our impatience.
When the food arrived, however, the kitchen redeemed itself. The entrecôte was as masterful as we remembered—seared to perfection, with a tender heart that whispered of expertise. The fries were crisp, golden, and as delightfully rustic as before. Yet, the sauce, the hallmark of L’Atelier, felt diminished—not in quality, but in quantity. Where once it had flowed generously, this time it arrived restrained, leaving us longing for the indulgence we had come to expect.
We paired our meal with a bottle of Bordeaux, its bold, velvety character complementing the richness of the steak. It was a pairing that spoke of tradition, a testament to the restaurant’s understanding of the classics.
Given the less-than-stellar start, we turned to dessert as an opportunity for redemption. The Crêpe Suzette arrived with flair, flambéed at the table and presented with care. The flavour, however, left room for improvement. While the acidity of the orange was bold and invigorating, it teetered on overpowering, begging for the balance that a touch more butter could have provided. Still, it was an enjoyable finale, its theatricality a nod to the restaurant’s commitment to presentation.
L’Atelier Réaumur remains a worthy bearer of the name, delivering a meal that, despite its minor flaws, reminded us why this establishment holds a place of esteem in Paris. Yet, there was an undeniable sense that the experience could have been more. Service, after all, is the invisible thread that binds a great meal together, and here, it frayed slightly.

While not as flawless as our first visit, L’Atelier Entrecôte & Volaille Réaumur still delivers on its promise of exceptional food. With a touch more attention to service and detail, it could easily reclaim its...
Read moreThe waitstaff’s ability was not enough to handle the situation of the whole restaurant.
I entered at noon and greeted the front desk, but he didn’t even look at me properly—just tossed out a line telling me to find someone else.
For a restaurant with only two options on the menu, I still had to wait more than 5 minutes after being seated before any service came to ask for my order.
Another 5 minutes after ordering, the power went out, and the restaurant stayed without electricity for the next 30 minutes. During that time, the servers gave no explanation, and even after power was restored, nobody bothered to say anything. At that point, all I had on my table was a bottle of tap water.
20 minutes after the power came back, I finally received my starter salad. It was refreshing. Good.
Then came another long wait of 30 minutes. Eventually, I noticed that the guests who had entered right behind me had already paid and left, and the tables on both sides of me—who arrived much later—were already enjoying their main courses. At that point, I realized the restaurant had definitely forgotten me. I couldn’t believe that while I was sitting in the middle of the room, the staff managed not to notice that I had nothing on my table while they were serving right next to me. When I reminded the waiter that my main course still hadn’t arrived, he actually had the nerve to ask me what I had ordered??????????????????????? Within 10 minutes after requested, I finally received my main dish: a modest portion of steak and fries. I have to give credit to the sauce’s unique flavor and the steak’s perfectly cooked texture—it was satisfying. Unfortunately, the fries lacked that crisp shell with a fluffy middle, and some of them were over-fried.
After total 90 minutes of simmering frustration, that anger had become my side dish. I had no appetite left to take a dessert —I just wanted to pay and leave. At least, in the end, the restaurant offered to waive the bill, though they only informed me after I had first asked for the check, waited another 5 minutes, and then stood up to remind the waiter again as I was about to leave.
All in all, the food here is distinctive and memorable, and I would consider returning and recommending it to friends. But about service, the servers were clearly overwhelmed when the site is full— tough that still doesn’t excuse the poor...
