La Maison du Boulevard — Restaurant in Paris

We just went to this restaurant because it received excellent reviews. The meal started off well. The owner gave us complimentary appetiser (bread with spread on it) which was kind and of course appreciated. We ordered two kids meals, a Sri Lankan dish and a tartare of avocado salmon. When I was looking at the menu before we ordered, I asked what came with the baked salmon. The owner said he could do steamed vegetables. I didn’t order that dish. Our food was good except that the tartare was 90 percent avacado with 10 percent Salmon. It comes with salad leaves and a bowl of steamed vegetables. A more accurate name for the dish would have been an avocado salad. When we finished eating we had fries and vegetables left over. I hadn’t touched the vegetables and it would have been a potty to throw them away. When we came to pay we asked for a container to take them away. Restaurants in France are obligated to do so by law. The owner got very upset with us and said it’s forbidden. He told us he gave us the vegetables for free. We told him we are happy to pay. All he had to do was to say that he had no containers or that he wasn’t aware of the law. Instead, he was aggressively telling us that taking food away from his restaurant was forbidden and the law didn’t apply to him. This restaurant is a gem of a place that serves authentic French cuisine with impeccable technique and well balanced taste.

The amuse bouche provided compliments of the chef was a creamy pumpkin soup that was a delightful way to combat the cold weather and had me reaching for more bread to clean the bowl completely.

The entree was an egg and leek dish that looked unassuming but tasted so full of flavour that genuinely surprised me.

The plat course was duck breast cooked to perfection and served with a potato puree that was like a cloud.

And oh the dessert... that fondant au chocolat is something that I will remember for a long long time... No words can do it justice...

Did I mention that the portions were plenty and at an affordable price (By Paris Standards) too?

However, all this is not what sealed the deal for me. The attentive service by the chef and the patience to explain the menu even with a language barrier is truly appreciated. The chef is always smiling and makes a genuine effort to connect with you and ensure everything is to your liking. That above all is what makes this restaurant experience head and shoulders above others.

The food reflected the character of the restaurant in that it looks unassuming but it will be a meal you truly enjoy. The restaurant is located in a street that is not all that busy but in my humble opinion, is worth a visit any time...
