We were referred to Le Bouledogue by Mary at Hôtel Vieux Marais after a few other places were booked up — and we’re glad they were, because this turned out to be one of the best meals of our Paris trip.
As Texans, the name "Le Bouledogue" (translation: The Bulldog) gave us a grin — we imagined something casual or pub-like. But when we walked in, we were surprised in the best way. The atmosphere was refined and relaxed, with a romantic, business-class feel. Think soft lighting, quiet tables, and just enough Parisian charm to know you’re somewhere special.
We picked up a phrase in Paris — “Très bon!” — and let me tell you, it absolutely fit the meal.
We started with the French onion soup, and it was loaded with cheese — bubbling, baked just right, and deeply flavorful. One of the best versions we’ve had anywhere.
For the main course, we went with the daily special: a steak kebab served with mashed potatoes, followed by a strawberry dessert that reminded us of good ole strawberry shortcake back home. Every bite hit the spot — simple, well-prepared, and packed with flavor.
The staff were outstanding — warm, professional, and welcoming, just like Mary and her team at the hotel. Even with our limited French, they made us feel comfortable and looked after. The service was smooth and kind without being over-the-top.
If you're staying near Le Marais and looking for a spot that blends local charm, excellent food, and a quiet, polished setting, Le Bouledogue is a fantastic choice. Whether you’re out for a romantic dinner or just want a real Parisian meal done right, this place is, in a...
Read moreWe got a recommendation from our accommodations host for this restaurant for my husbands birthday dinner. The atmosphere is true Paris bistrot with a menu to match.
I had the leeks (Poireaux vinaigrette) which to me was the one dish that exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately the duck breast special I ordered was cooked medium well (even though I asked and they said they prepared it to medium) and was comprised of three thin slices of duck with sauce that was edible but was very underwhelming. Photos online show a rich plate of sliced duck but that was not my experience. My sons steak he said was tasty but it was very grisly. My husband ordered the chicken with mushrooms and it was ok but under seasoned. With drinks, one entree of leeks, 3 mains, 2 desserts and gratuity our bill was 230 euros (approx $350 CAD) which was our most expensive midlevel French bistros experience in Paris by far. At the same level I would say Bistrot Victoires was 10x better food at...
Read moreTerrible experience. Nicholas was very rude and when I found a staple in my food he was gaslighting me, trying to convince me it was a piece of rosemary. I wasn't looking for a discount, just to let them know they have staples floating around in their $30 entrees and somehow I felt blamed by the whole ordeal. After I paid Nicholas, the bartender and the other waiter had a loud conversation about me while I was still in the bar and the whole thing was so rude and gross. The food wasn't bad, but honestly there are many better options for delicious restaurants with friendly waitstaff, especially in the area. I really don't recommend and on a Saturday night there were several empty tables which we should have seen as a...
