Don't go there! It was one of the most awful meals I ever had in France. We new the place from 3 years ago, when we had quite a good diner there. Now we reserved a table at 7.30 pm. When we stepped in the restaurant was not yet really prepared for the guests, although there was a group already seated. A big hoover was standing around. We were seated, an we realized that the place had come down a bit, everything was a bit grubby. Suddenly they startet to hoover right next to us, with an appology in our direction. Meanwhile the place was filled with people. We got menue, the winelist was so sticky, that I refused to hold it. We ordered fist course, I had Escalope de fois gras on a very hot plate. It was kind of overcooked. But the maincourse a filet from the wild duck on roasted ceps which folowed was really disgusting. I have to say that I love to eat game in any form and if I find a speciality on a menue I always order it. This wild duck was simply rotten meat. The smell from the plate was one thing, but as I tried the first piece of meat, it was horror. My wife tried it, and could not even swallow it. I complained to the waiter, and he offered me an alternative, I ordered a steak medium, and they brought it well done, because the waiter had not understand it had no taste at all. It was the first time I left a restaurant like this. It took two Calvados to get rid of the horrible taste...
Read moreThis restaurant, tucked away on a little side street in the Porte D'Orleans was a really wonderful find. It felt and behaved like a top level fancy restaurant, but the prices are really affordable. This place really deserves to be well known and bursting at the seams with customers.
Beautiful, well cooked and presented food, excellent, friendly service, and hidden away off the tourist track. I was the only foreigner in the place, and most of the rest of the diners were clearly there for a special night out. I walked in, on a Saturday evening, and was able to get a table without any trouble. I ended up only eating two courses because the portions were extremely generous. In addition to the food I ordered, they brought a small plate of little savoury nibbles while I was waiting, and another of sweet nibbles at the end. The price was fixed, so there were no horrid surprises at the end.
I definitely plan to go back there again next time I...
Read moreLes Vendanges is a small restaurant in 14. Arrondissement, where mostly people come for lunch. There weren´t many guest on the restaurant that night. We were a group of 18 people and pre-ordered our 3-course menu. For me it was grilled goat cheese as a starter, beef steak with potatoes (unfortunately with a lot of garlic) and beans as main course and frozen profiteroles for dessert. The goat cheese was very tasty and perfectly prepared - for me the best dish of this evening. Unfortunately, the grilled beef was not the best choice as the meet was tough. Frozen profiteroles for dessert were not too sweet and a perfect finish. Generally, I can recommend the restaurant for a dinner away from the tourist scene, although my meat was not very tender. The other dishes (like lamb) were...
