We were extremely disappointed in this restaurant. We've visited roughly a dozen places to eat in Paris thus far and everyone has been super friendly and respectful. Food thus far has also been really good. However, this is our first bad experience after a week in Paris. My spouse and I ordered the nicoise salad and the pork tenderloin.
Nicoise salad - beans were overcooked (or from a can), anchovies were not cut up (i.e., one large strip in the centre so the flavours did not mix), egg was overdone, three canned olives in the whole salad (too few) tasted quite processed, dressing did not have much flavour and certainly was not properly seasoned (i.e., lack of salt), and tuna appeared to come from a can that was improperly drained. Lettuce was fine.
Pork tenderloin (with prune sauce) - meat was dry, overcooked, not very flavourfull, could not taste any prunes that were supposedly part of the dish. Fries that came with the dish we like cheap pressed ones from American fast food restaurants. Side salad was ok but not great.
After we were seated and had ordered, we noticed the servers were talking to people passing by trying to coax them into the restaurant in a loud and annoying manner. Never a good sign. Had we noticed this earlier we never would have entered the restaurant. Also, I speak French so there was no issues there. At the end of meal, one of the servers asked how our meals were and we both indicated that they were quite poor. He apologized and simply shrugged his shoulders. Cost was around 30 euros which is excessive for what we had ordered. The food did not taste good at all. My spouse ate less than half the salad.
Our alternate option was a series of cafes/restaurants around the Fuente Stravinsky. Consider going to one of those...
Ā Ā Ā Read moredangerous for allergies!!!
I would give this 0 stars if I could. My friend (who has a severe onion allergy) and I went here for a yummy dinner and some jazz only to leave urgently as my friends tongue began to swell.
We informed the waiter of her allergies and the danger of onions, only to have the first dish served covered in chives. We had to send it back and explain to them that chives are in the onion family (and one of the most dangerous for her), which they denied, and they brought us a new dish which was fine.
BUT, when they served the second dish they said there were no onions and that the topping was parsley (which it was) but they prepared it carelessly and my friend looked up at me in panic as her tongue began to swell because she bit into a very small chive. Which they denied happened and insisted wasn't in the dish (which you could see when you inspected closely)!!!!
All they had to do was tell us they could not accommodate her allergy, instead they poisoned my friend and charged us full price to add insult to (physical) injury.
Shame on this chef and owner for not protecting its customers.
Important note, my friend is doing fine and recovering physically and emotionally.
(Also they overcooked...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were just walking around the area looking for a good dining spot when we saw Chez Loulou, filled with both locals and tourists alike. While we were checking the menu outside, their waiter, in a friendly, non intimidating manner, approached us. He assisted us in their menu, which in most restaurants we find overwhelming especially when thereās no english equivalent. It was key to us in agreeing to dine in the place. After all, we were starving. For starters, we ordered onion soup and escargot and we loved it! For our mains, we ordered steak and truffle pasta which we loved as well. Serving is just right as opposed to the other reviews weāve seen. We were already full long before we finished our meal. For our drinks, since we are unsure of what to order, the kind waiter again asked for our preference and brought us cocktails just as what we wanted. Itās the good food and outstanding service that sets them out from the others...
