I used to visit Malak Al tawouk each week or 2 just to eat their tawouk sandwich.
I have to admit that at the beginning I liked so much everything about their sandwiches even though I presented the restaurant to my international friends. Some of them liked it and some did not.
I tried the classic tawouk, special tawouk and the cheese tawouk. All of them are the same but there is a particular difference from one to another. The special tawouk has turkey in addition while the cheese tawouk have some mozzarella cheese. I was disappointed about the amount of cheese added thus I did not feel the difference between the classic and the cheese tawouk. The fries are thick and crunchy. Most of the times I have to ask back for mayonnaise and ketchup because they end up adding 2 ketchup bags for 4 people (which I found it not fair at all)
Regarding the place is cozy and have good decoration. It is always busy around 2;00pm so to avoid the waiting best time to be a bit early or late. The staff is nice and the owner of the shop will make the difference. A very nice guy who will speak with you and always have a smile on his face.
The sad part about all of that is no recycling bin in the restaurant. Everything will go in one bin even though they are using other recycled straws/bags…
I am giving 3 stars just because I used to love their garlic sauce so much. It is strong and true garlic compared to the other restaurants. Now they change it to something that has no taste of garlic 🧄 The garlic sauce was the main reason why I prefer malak al tawouk on other restaurants.
If you are looking for a authentic tawouk from Lebanon come and visit malak tawouk but do not expect to much from the garlic sauce. In my opinion, I think I will visit it less since the sauce is...
Read moreAfter much hype, I tried this lebanese gold-standard chicken-sandwich specialist ... verdict : very good, but non Lebanon delicious !! Pretty standard sandwich shop ; orders taken quickly, you can even change some aspects of the sandwich (one vs 2 pita loaves, etxra garlic etc.) 10 min later, voilà ! The menu's centerpiece is of course the taouk sandwich, with slaw, fries, garlic and ketchup ! It's quite massive (esp with 2 bread loaves !) It was tasty and fragrant, you could taste the marination on the chicken pieces ... it lacked however the tangy, aromatic flavours that made it such an iconic sandwich back home ! I also tried the makanek (sausages), with hummus which again were good but a step down from the middle eastern relatives !! I will go back for sure (certainly when nostalgic) and hope they ultimately perfect their recipe to make as authentic...
Read moreupdate based on the owners comments I have updated this review and changed the one instance of "chicken shawarma" to "chicken tawouk" and added in details around the slow service.
This place is really hyped, but does not live up to it. You can find a better chicken tawouk sandwich elsewhere. The wrap was fine, but the chicken and sauce lacked flavor. We asked for harissa on the side to add more flavor, but the service was very slow (received it on my second trip to the counter, 20 mins after being told it would be brought to the table) and I had eaten half my sandwich by the time I received it. The only good part of the meal was that the fries were fresh and tasted pretty good. The lunch special, 8.50 Euros for a sandwich, fries, and drink is a good deal for a filling,...
