Spectacular puddings and a charming room - with a few tweaks, this place could be excellent. The room is light and airy, with comfortable seats and gorgeous Thirties chandeliers. But the light's a little too bright and the music coming from the kitchen was pretty loud. Service was extremely charming though, and we started with glasses of rose champagne and a plate of delicious Iberian hams and prepared meats, paired with gorgeous nutty dark bread. Mains were less successful; my beef was almost like pulled pork and my colleague's dish was supposed to be veal....but tasted a little more like liver in batter. All was saved when the puddings arrived, though. Wow. The St Honore was simply one of the best puddings I've ever had; balls of choux filled with sharply salted caramel, on a millefeuille base with Chantilly cream. The staff was welcoming... Attentive, but not intrusive. And the food... Intuitive combinations that will tantalize your palate: If it is on the menu, the Leek and Tuna appetizer is a must-have (it was so good, I could have kept enjoying it as a main course!) We were a party of 2 on a Wednesday evening, both enjoying appetizers, entrees, wine and a shared dessert, and the bill was a reasonable €115. Worth every cent.
