SAIN Boulangerie — Restaurant in Paris

While taking my two black and tan dachshunds for their daily midday walk, I decided to stop by Sain for a quick slice of brioche. I briefly paused a business call to place my order, expecting a simple and pleasant transaction. To my astonishment, an extremely unfriendly woman informed me that I would not be served again if I was on a call.

This establishment, in addition to selling exceedingly overpriced bread, seems to believe it has the authority to dictate etiquette for polite society. I am utterly flabbergasted by such unprofessional and frankly insolent behavior. This level of customer service is not only disappointing but also reflective of a broader issue.

Furthermore, I cannot help but draw a parallel between the ongoing political instability in France and this extreme behavior. It seems that the turmoil and unrest at the national level have seeped into everyday interactions, leading to an environment where common courtesy is disregarded. The experience left me questioning the values and standards upheld by this bakery and its staff.

Was her reaction influenced by the Star of David around my neck? I am increasingly inclined to believe so, which adds a disturbing layer to the encounter. Such blatant disregard for customer respect and potential underlying prejudice is unacceptable. I am sharing this review in English to ensure that tourists visiting Paris for the first time are aware of this bakery’s behavior and can avoid a similarly unpleasant experience. In a city renowned for its charm and hospitality, such actions are a stark and unwelcome contrast.

I subsequently returned the slice of brioche and requested a refund not wanting to savor that woman’s disdain, prejudice and complete omission of trade’s prime rule, the customer is always king.

In response to your inaccurate account of events: your employee snapped at me upon completion of the transaction stating that “she would never serve me again should I be on the phone.” I then returned the slice of brioche and requested a refund. When did it become acceptable to dismiss customers in such a passive-aggressive manner? Her comment was entirely uncalled for.

Found this bakery on Instagram and finally dropped a visit today.

We planned to visit around 2pm but it was saying they’re closed for a break on google map so we came back around 4pm. It was lining up in front of the store already. Most of the stuff were sold out, only some bread and mostly cakes were left.

I took a croissant (as it’s recommended), a palmier(it looks super crispy and coated with lots of sugar) and a miquette with chocolate and banana. Staff was friendly and she tried her best to communicate and introduce the products in English as I don’t speak French.

The croissant comes with a strong cinnamon smell, it is exactly kind of crispy outside and very soft and dense inside. However, for the croissant, I’m more of a fan for the traditional crispy ones. But I’m not saying the croissant here isn’t good, just not my style. The palmier is absolutely delicious!!!! This one I recommend it.

I appreciate the creation they have with the bread and pastry and it’s also why I would like to come back for more. But the price would probably be the only thing that avoids me to go there...

-Le service souriant agréable attentionné. -La qualité des produits et des ingrédients choisis. Ainsi que leur présentation. -L’ambiance « sereine et décontractée ».

J’ai du mal à comprendre certain commentaires concernant le service, la qualité et les prix 😨 (cela fait des années que je scrute chaque boulangerie de Paris et d’ailleurs, pour en découvrir tout les secrets, l’alimentation est une véritable passion pour moi.

Et l’alimentation saine devenue une obligation!

Quel plaisir de découvrir ces viennoiseries, levain bio, sucré non raffiné, (il me semble blé ancien), elles sont toutes délicieuses!!

Mention spéciale: chausson aux pommes, chausson abricot, bien caramélisés mais pas trop, loin de l’écœurement de certain caramel au sucre blanc trop présent, le goût de la pomme ou de l’abricot absolument sublime (les abricots d’aujourd’hui sont de qualité ça se sent! Un parfait mélange entre acidité, sucre du fruit/sucré complet/caramel, onctuosité et feuilletage croustillant comme il faut).

Pépito, croissant, pain au chocolat, pain au raisin, roule ma prune (peut-être un chouïa léger niveau goût, cela ne m’aurait pas dérangé un peu plus d’UMEBOSHI, bien au contraire 😊) très équilibré, très bon feuilletage, ça a du GOÛT! Donc ça peut sortir un petit peu de l’ordinaire au niveau des saveurs, et justement, c’est un privilège et loin d’être une désolation… c’est plutôt l’ordinaire qui devient désolant en terme de gastronomie française maintenant, avis et constat personnel 😭

Pour le pain, j’avais goûté le St Martin qui était délicieux, croûte goûtue croustillante, mie dense et bien assez alvéolée, en accompagnement pour TOUT 😂 Baguette « Francis » pour aujourd’hui, 100% blé ancien, enfin une baguette juste parfaite à mon sens, équilibrée, croûte un petit peu plus épaisse et croustillante que la moyenne, un goût qui vous plongera dans le blé 🌾 le vrai! La mie encore une fois denses et parfaitement alvéolée très très bonne en goût. Rien à redire. C’était ma deuxième fois en 6 mois chez eux (je ne suis pas d’ici), je recommande les yeux fermés! Meilleure boulangerie saine de Paris 🌾🇫🇷

PS: je suis assez sensible au sucre en général y compris complet et surtout céréales suite à une detox ayurvedique puissante, j’ai mangé l’équivalent de 4/5 viennoiseries + une demie baguette AUCUN problème de digestion ou sensation désagréable au niveau du colon intestin ou estomac. Magique pour moi qui en une pâtisserie ou viennoiserie « classique » mais de qualité tombe à terre niveau digestion.

Merci d’exister, je suis quelqu’un d’honnête, je me suis senti obligé de vous tirer mon chapeau, vous faites du bien à la capitale et du bien au savoir faire français, je vous souhaite de continuer et de grandir comme vous le souhaitez/méritez, bravo...
