My girlfriend chose stayed at this hotel for her Paris trip for 3 days in Feburary. But what she had experienced on her last day at this hotel was disturbing.
She was not given an upgrade even though the receptionist told her they have upgraded for her. The room looked exactly like when she booked it, so the upgrade was a lie.
I’m cross posting for her on IHG platform as well:
“Shocking Discrimination at Breakfast – Avoid if You’re Asian
I am appalled by the blatant discrimination based on my skin color at Crowne Plaza Paris during breakfast on February 12, 2025, at 8:30 AM. As an IHG Diamond Elite member, I expected fair treatment, but instead, I witnessed a problematic and racist seating system that placed Asian guests in a separate, inferior section while white guests enjoyed a better dining area.
What Happened?
Upon arrival, I provided my room number (338). The staff checked a list that included membership status, then deliberately escorted me and my friend (a white Finnish woman) to an area where only Asian guests were seated.
When I requested the table in the nicer area (the same table that we sat at for the past two days), I was told, “That table is reserved. Someone came to reserve it yesterday.” (A lie). I then asked, "Isn't breakfast buffet style? How can someone reserve a table?" The waitress then said, "Yeah, I'm sorry but this has been reserved. If you want this table, you have to come here and tell us in advance." (Another blatant lie).
However, when my white friend returned with her food, a staff member immediately stopped her and said, “I can give you an even nicer table”—the same table I was just denied. Clearly, they did not believe she was with me, and she was offered better treatment simply because of her race.
Management’s response was even Worse.
After breakfast, I escalated the issue to the restaurant manager, who:
• Refused to acknowledge the problem.
• Ignored me (who is the one raising the concern). And 80% of the time spoke at my white friend.
• Justified the discrimination by saying, “We usually seat Chinese groups separately because they are loud and may disturb other guests.”, and "My staff may have just assumed you come with a big group of Chinese"
• Dismissed my complaint by claiming, “Our employees are people of color, so discrimination is impossible.”
This is not an isolated incident. I see a denial of what had happened to me and an attempt to gaslight me by bringing up irrelevant things, like "oh they proabbly just thought you are part of the big group". The problem:
• White guests were freely seated in the premium section—no reservation needed.
• Asian guests (even Diamond Elite members) were placed in a separate, crowded section.
• Management openly exhibited stereotyping of Chinese guests.
• My complaint was only taken seriously when my white friend spoke up.
This was one of the most humiliating experiences I’ve ever had at a hotel. If you are Asian, think twice before staying at Crowne Plaza Paris—I refuse to support a hotel that practices discrimination based on how people look. I will be escalating this complaint to IHG Corporate, French anti-discrimination authorities, and international media.
Discrimination thrives in silence. But I...

Read moreI cannot say enough bad things about this hotel. I stayed here a year and a half ago and had a great experience...now I don't even know what to say except it went from 3 star quality to feeling like we were staying in a McDonald's with no management. My family and I stayed here for 4 nights and 5 days and every day brought more problems that the last. We are IHG members (which means absolutely nothing to them)so expected to be treated as such but that did not happen. First of all the hotel and both rooms we stayed in smelled awful, like sewage water the entire time. The rooms are so incredibly loud you will not get any sleep. On top of that the second night we woke up to them calling our room at 7 am, thus waking us up, asking if we had hot water. 10 minutes later the fire alarms went off in the hotel for 20 minutes straight even though there was no emergency, then it turns out our room completely flooded and so we had to pack all our things and move to a different room at 7:30 in the morning, this ruined our entire day as we are out of town and were trying to adjust to sleep. For this convenience we were offered.....nothing, we were told "these problems can happen so we cannot give you anything" seriously? This is how you treat your guests. On top of this my mom wanted to book a taxi for a few days later and a year ago this taxi costed 50 euro and they were happy to book for us, now they are asking for a 25 euro booking fee on top of the taxi price? Give me a break, they were trying to rip her off so I told her to cancel the taxi and we would get it ourselves. Once she told them the next day she wanted to cancel the taxi, the next morning my parents received a 5 am wake up call that they scheduled for 4 days later on a completely different day, interrupting sleep AGAIN because of incompetence.
Also, make sure to keep valuables locked away in the safe, the cleaning situation felt sketchy and unsafe and after seeing another review where someones things were stolen I am not surprised. Cleaning staff enters the room multiple times a day even after they have cleaned the room, sometimes they knock, sometimes they don't and its incredibly strange and really made us feel so uneasy that we started carrying our passports with us all day. We had two separate rooms and this happened multiple times in both rooms.
And for the pièce de résistance the last two days we were here the wifi completely stopped working, thus making it impossible for us to try and get to the airport or do anything of relevance, and all we're told by the front desk is "its not the hotels fault".
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT STAY HERE AND WASTE YOUR MONEY. AVOID AVOID AVOID. I do not leave bad reviews and rarely complain but this is the worst hotel I ,and my family, have ever stayed at and they made the trip so difficult and hard for us. I cannot even believe the gall they have to charge as much as they do. Save your money or spend it elsewhere as there are many hotels in Paris but if you choose to stay here you...
