Disappointing Experience My recent visit left me with a sense of disappointment for various reasons. The restaurant's setup felt cramped and rushed, reminiscent of a canteen-style seating arrangement. While I appreciate such setups for their authentic feel, I couldn't help but feel that it fell short of expectations. I've had some of the best Asian food served in a similar fashion, but, unfortunately, this wasn't one of those instances. The food left much to be desired, with small portions, a lack of sauce, and higher prices.
Now, let's delve into the specifics of each dish we sampled:
Starters:
We began with the noShrimp Tempura and Banh Cuon. The noShrimp Tempura was delicious but came without any accompanying sauce, and none was available on the table. It left the dish feeling somewhat incomplete – after all, who doesn't enjoy a good dipping sauce? On the other hand, the Banh Cuon had an abundance of pancake but lacked a substantial filling, resulting in a somewhat pasty taste. I wouldn't recommend this choice.
Main Courses:
For our main courses, we opted for the caramelized nochicken clay pot, Thai basil nochicken, and two sides of rice (plain and sticky). Unfortunately, the portions were notably small, for the price and the sauces were barely present. The nochicken clay pot, for instance, resembled more of a starter than a main course, with limited chicken pieces and a shortage of sauce. It felt like eating dry chicken with rice, far from the satisfying sauciness one would expect from a clay pot dish. Additionally, it lacked the expected inclusion of onions or vegetables that would have made it feel like a complete dish.
The Thai basil NOchicken dish lived up to its name as it appeared more like a tofu-veggie dish. The basil flavor was faint, and once again, the lack of sauce was a letdown. ( it was presented to us in a small bowl, same size as the rice… that’s suppose to be a main course ? )
To compound our frustration, both dishes had to be consumed over the rice bowl or bamboo mat, as no plates were provided. This made it challenging to combine the 'main' with the rice and added to the overall sense of disappointment.
In summary, our experience at this restaurant left us wishing for more in terms of food quality, portion size, and value for the...
Read moreWe were on vacation in Paris and we were looking for a good vegetarian place. We found this restaurant on the page of a Finnish travel blogger, Google reviews also piqued our interest. When we got to the restaurant, we noticed that the place was full and there was a line outside. This is usually a good sign. We got in almost immediately, the restaurant apparently just had a seat for two.
The menu looked very good and promising. We ordered spring rolls and papaya salad to start. Both arrived at the table in a bowl that was completely lined with iceberg lettuce. There was half a pound of iceberg lettuce per serving dish. The papaya salad was classically not hot at all and mostly tasted like grated carrot. Spring rolls were basic spring rolls.
For main course we ordered Pad Thai and Vietnamese pancakes. The classic dish Pad Thai was nothing but mush in the mouth, the taste of which was a somekind tofu marinade. The noodles had no mouth feel at all and the whole portion looked the same as it tasted. Terrible. The Vietnamese pancake tasted the same as the spring rolls, only the lid of the product had changed.
Both main courses also had half a pound of iceberg lettuce on the side of the plate. I don't understand the point? Surely no one eats so much iceberg lettuce that is put as "decorations" on the dishes. The amount of losses must be really large..
I hope my experience was the only one of its kind, otherwise I wonder about the restaurant's reviews. Even the classic portions were nowhere near what...
Read moreUnfortunately we cannot confirm the other good comments about this place. The quality of the food ranks among the lowest we have ever encountered in asian cuisine. Most dishes were too sweet and also nothing I would eat without dipping in sauce.
The 4 starters we ordered were served after 3-4 minutes. Think for yourself how freshly this was made. Now some details:
The sticky rice tasted like nothing and was completely soaked in oil. We did not eat it.
The fried 'chicken' was fried so deep and long that anything could have been inside the 'breading'. Sauce or forget it.
The 'shrimp' tempura was not tempura but covered in some crumbs. The taste and texture was alright but nothing i'd eat again.
The grilled dumplings had such a thick outer layer and tasted like a raw dough with some stuffing that we could not tell what it was.
The clear soup was not clear in any way but more a mix of water with some kind of oyster sauce. brown colour and sweet. amongst the ingredients were pieces of vegetables as well as tofu and some chunks of fake chicken that tasted terrible.
As a main dish we got the black pepper 'beef'. This was actually pretty tasty and the only dish that seemed to be prepared freshly. So thumbs up for this.
The staff is super friendly and it's kind of a cool spot too so an extra star for this.
Bottom line an extremely disappointing experience but i guess we should have known as none of the customers that were present when we arrived were asian ;)
