A champagne-lover's coupe of bubbly

As avid champagne-lovers, me and my husband had been on the hunt for a bubbly masterclass that would also feature a sabrage experience. One of the first ones to pop up was Pol Couronne's Champagne Masterclass including sabrage. So, to spice up our Friday, we booked the event and got ready for some bubbles and beheading.

When we arrived, we were welcomed by the lovely Naomie, who talked us through the experience and poured our first tasting glasses, giving us a high-level overview of the production process and tasting notes. Much to my husband's dismay, Naomie was a true girls' girl, offering to take as many photos of us as my heart desired. She was beyond nice and friendly while always remaining professional.

Once we'd tasted the three champagnes, we got to choose the one to saber. As we loved the 2008 vintage the most, Naomie and Paul were willing to make an exception and let us saber our first preference. Paul talked me through the art of sabrage and both Naomie and Paul were the greatest cheerleaders I could ever ask for when I beheaded my first bottle.

Later on, Paul gave us a wonderful masterclass on the production of champagne and told us a bit about his own background.

All in all, this was an amazing date night for my husband and me, and we couldn't recommend visiting the Pol Couronne house more. Thanks again to Naomie and Paul for making the evening extra fun...

Whenever one thinks about tasting sparkling wine in Reims, an extremely beautiful and enchanting village in the northeast of France, the classical and traditional names of famous brands easily come to one’s mind. However, to both my wife and I, a different name comes first: Pol Couronne. The showroom, which is near the city magnificent Cathedral, is cosily and comfortably decorated, making the experience of wine testing even better. We were served and introduced to the history and details of the production by a kind and attentive young man named Issam (hope this the proper spelling for his name). His explanations were clear and objective, a friendly chat, which, for our surprise, was partially delivered in Portuguese as our host had already lived in a Portuguese speaking country. I highly recommend the testing in Pol Couronne showroom. We tested the three options available and bought a bottle of the brut version.
