Hard to find a ramen place in Reims so i was very happy to stumble upon Genki while looking for one. It's conveniently situated near the Cathedrale and fairly easier to park than restaurants near centre ville
As someone who is Asian and have tried ramen joints in Japan, Genki is your best bet ramen-wise in Reims. The Chasu was soft, tender and flavorful, the soy marinated egg was just right all for the price of €12! The broth was a bit lighter in taste compared to a traditional shio ramen but it didn't bother me much. I would have preferred the noodles to be a tad bit harder as it was a bit too soft to my taste
The takoyaki was wonderful! It even came with bonito flakes, all ingredients stayed true to the traditional one and even had chunky bits of octopus!
I was however deeply disappointed with the Katsudon. It tasted nothing like it and didn't have the traditional umami dashi soy taste on the pork nor the egg. It was more like a western take on the katsudon, we had to add a bit of soy sauce even and salt for it to have a bit more flavor. Too bad, imo, because the pork was cooked well and tender, i would advice you skip the donburi and just go for the tonkatsu version instead
Service was great. We came in around 7pm and was seated comfortably. By 7:30 the place was busy, buzzling and full on a Saturday night so I would suggest you come early or call for reservation!
Anyway, i was still very happy overall to stumble upon this restaurant! Can't wait to come back and try all the...
Read moreThe worst Ramen you could have in your lifetime. They obviously don’t know the basics on how to make broth. It smelled like pork gone bad.
일본인이 하는 곳인줄 알고 갔다가 라멘 육수에서 진동하는 돼지잡내와 어디서도 먹어본 적 없는 맛에 두세입 먹다가 그냥 나옴.. 진짜 너무한다.
Here I am making additional comment as per the owner of the restaurant's reply. I admit my comment could have been rude in wording, and apologize for not describing my experience in a milder context so that your employees are not discouraged.
What you have written back to me just proves exactly what I mean by "the basics of ramen broth." It is imperative that you get rid of the pork odor whilst preparing the broth using other ingredients, yet still maintaining the deep taste of what pork can give you in the soup. This is what good ramen restaurants strive to achieve, and is something you clearly lack. Since you categorize your restaurant as Ramen place on Google map, I meant to address such basic issue and unpleasantness. Perhaps, "you" should speak with your new Japanese employee on how to...
Read morePoor experience with this restaurant who tried to over charge me and practice "bait and switch" with a drink. I specifically ordered and pointed to a glass of rose. They billed at 15 euros for a single glass of sake. They also billed me for a coffee that was included in the set menu. The woman at the counter then argued to try to keep the bogus charges on the bill. I write this review because it was the waitress fault or it was a robbery game and yet they tried to blame me the guest. The manager also tried to shake me down for these charges that i disputed. Avoid this place. Not guest friendly and they try to rip you off by over charging. Read the owners response to see her trying to cover up for two...
