Dame Cakes — Restaurant in Rouen

Tourists: please make sure you read all other negative reviews before going. Don’t waste your money and your precious vacation time at this place. I went with my 2 kids this afternoon, like the other review mentioned, the server and the old lady at the front were rude to tourists (or people who don’t speak French). Believe it or not, they would go out of their way to make sure you don’t have a pleasant experience. The server pretended he didn’t understand. (I was literally pointing at the cake, but he was still trying to pretend he didn’t get it.) Later, he needed an extra chair for a big group, instead of asking the table right next to the big group who also has an extra chair with only one shopping bag on it, he went out of his way to ask us who are further away and knowing I am actually using the tiny chair for my two kids’ coats, my coat, my purse and my kid’s backpack on it. I had to pile all those items next to my kids.

Also, as other reviews mentioned they overcharged and don’t let you know the prices of each item. Costed me 30 euros for 3 pieces of cakes.

The whole place just feels shady.

I would give this place zero stars if I can. Please save yourself the aggravation and look for another place if you don’t...

Dame Cake Salon de Thé is one of those spots that seems to show up on every "must-visit" list in Rouen, so naturally, I had to check it out. From the moment you arrive, it’s hard not to be impressed by the beautiful window display filled with tempting pastries. It definitely sets high expectations. We visited around 11 a.m. and were lucky to be seated right away without waiting in line. We already knew what we wanted: the famous Tarte Tatin, served with mascarpone cream, and a crumble with pears and chocolate. Unfortunately, neither dessert lived up to the hype. The tarte tatin had a soggy base and the chocolate in the crumble didn't mix well with the pears, and I honestly couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about—or why people are willing to queue so long to eat here.
