Brasserie Paul — Restaurant in Rouen

I don’t know why people have to be so negative in their reviews. It’s a classic brasserie on the steps of the cathedral, enjoy yourself! We went early on Sunday for dinner (young kids) and lucked out with a table before the dinner rush started. Lots of other restaurants aren’t open for Sunday dinner. I was all set to practice my terrible French when our server asked what my husband wanted to drink and was met with a look of terror. She promptly asked if we spoke English. Food was classic faire, all the popular hits you’d expect with a few Normandy-variations. Sure it didn’t come out one second after you ordered, but it was quick enough for our little one not to go crazy. It was a full house but didn’t feel like they’re rushing you to clear the table. My cod was perfectly cooked. The older one had TWO desserts because the dessert du jour was too good to pass up. We had lunch on the terrace here on a nice Sunday afternoon in May. It’s definitely a well located restaurant in the center of Rouen, with an amazing view of the cathedral. I went for the meal of the day, which is 13.90€ and was veal with a thyme sauce and side. They had cauliflower flan as the default side but exchanging it with pommes frites was not a problem at all. The meal arrived quickly and the veal was tender and went really well with the sauce. The fries were home-made and delicious. Overall a great meal for a very reasonable price considering the quality and location! They also have a solid selection of drinks and the cider I had was amazing, very crisp and refreshing. Don't like tourists and are not consistent, waitress cleaning glass with spray outside next to where we were drinking, Also my wife white wine was not served in a ice bag but we witnessed other people's being severed in a ice bag to keep it cool. We asked for a menu 3 times we witnessed other local people being served before 19.00, but at 19.15, nobody attended to our order. This was Wedesday, 03 June 2025, and evening.
