le socrate — Restaurant in Rouen

We reached this café very late in the afternoon, 3pm, but they were very friendly and accommodating even though the kitchen had probably closed. We got to sit out which on this early Spring day was a treat!

Options were limited but what we ordered came quickly. I would particularly recommend the Socrates brasserie special that is a giant piece of quiche, lots of fries, a little salad and two slices of prosciutto. We took another plate of sausages and fries which had simple flavours and was perfect for a 7 year old and another dish which was the steak haché with fries. We asked for it well done since it was for a child but I think it got pretty burnt so I wouldn’t ask for any meat to be well-done 😂

We got the menu of the day after 15min waiting for a waiter. Entree took another 15 minutes, then we waited 45 min for the main, we asked the waiter about the delay and he said it was being played now, but after another 15 minutes and just as we were about to walk out, they finally brought the mains. We saw the same delays on several tables around us. Terrible service. It gets 2 stars because food was tasty and generous...

Went to Roeun on a Sunday and wanted a quick bite before going back go Paris. Many eateries were closed and this was one of those eateries in Rouen that were opened. Had hot chocolate, Nutella crepe and Tapas. Hot chocolate was OK. The crepe was soggy and cold. The fried items on the Tapas were hot but it was obviously fried when immediately taken out from the fridge because the insides of the chicken tenders...
