So fabulous we went 2 nights in a row. To be fair, they did change the menu.
Coin Coin is a restaurant on the edge of the medieval city offering ‘French tapas style’ share plates and whilst they give a nod to the regional produce, the dishes are much more refined. Think confit duck spring rolls with apricot sauce and rocket; mac and cheese (Comte of course) with truffled ham; burrata with summer truffles; beef carpaccio with olive paste; and foie gras with fruit chutney. The menu is one of those where you struggle to find dishes you don't want to order, in contrast with many menus in Sarlat which provide an opposite dilemma. Make sure you leave room for dessert! The expanded new menu provides excellent choice for vegetarians and those wishing to partake in traditional French ingredients. The wine list consists of primarily local wines, fairly priced. The chef/owner works front of house during meal periods so can advise on food choices, and the rest of the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. Could not recommend more highly for locals and...
Read moreWe have been managing a B&B in Sarlat for six weeks. We feel a duty to our guests to survey the delightful restaurant scene. Coin Coin is a true find. It provides a needed alternative to set menus that feature much the same (mostly excellent) variations on the theme--regional specialties. Coin Coin gives us small plates that echo, but re-define, the ingredients and their presentation. New in town, the vibe and the breezy service entice the diner to expand towards the horizon. There are several dishes featuring Sturgeon and Trout and their roe not to be found elsewhere. The obligatory duck dish that we shared was tender morsels, wrapped into diaphanous Asian-like rolls and swimming in a savory, slightly sweet, pan sauce (we ordered a second helping). In short, go here to be satisfied, romanced, and enchanted by the chef's creative ideas. The wine list is small but excellent. Toast the kitchen and engage the wait staff and the chef. Go elsewhere for a traditional lunch, end the evening here. Sarlat is better off with...
Read moreOur FAVORITE dining experience in Sarlat! Do not pass this place up!! I wish I could give it more stars. Creative, surprising, delicious, and lovely location full of Sarlat’s charm while sheltered from the heavy tourist atmosphere of other locations. We come from a very food-centric city in the U.S. and had noted that many of the menus in Sarlat were exactly the same. We chose Coin Coin randomly - we thought it was a casual cafe but were then blown away by the high level quality and variety of the food. We found out (from our wonderful server) that the chef/owner came from Paris and it makes sense as the menu brings a sense of vitality and experimentation that well serves Sarlat. A complete gem of a restaurant! I’d be here every week if I were lucky enough to be a...
