Blue Flamingo has a limited, seasonally inspired menu (3 entrees, 3 mains, and 4 dessert offerings). We chose the full menu, with an entree, a main, the cheese dish following, and finally a dessert course.
The starter gazpacho (did not appear on menu) was delicious, and the tuna sashimi was an excellent entree as well. One of the vegetarian main courses, the polenta, fell short of my expectations. The "crispy" polenta portion was burnt. "Spicy guacamole" amounted to unripe, flambeed avocado that couldn't be split with a knife. Half of the polenta crema was removed from the table immediately following service and I was unable to enjoy it or finish it.
Service fell far short of expectations as well, especially for a Michelin Guide-recommended restaurant. No other way around it. We were the literal first two-top seated for dinner service (begins at 7p, reservation was for 7:15 and we arrived several minutes early), and sat directly across from the bar downstairs. Cocktails came out fine, and while we finished those we selected and ordered a bottle of wine to share with our dinner. Our initial round of drinks were finished, with only glasses of still water left on the table in front of us, and the wine wouldn't come for another 10 minutes or so after another request for it. Tables all around us received service, attention, cocktails, bottles of wine, conversations from staff, etc. We did not.
We finished main courses and sat with mostly empty dishes in front of us for another several minutes before we could get the attention of any staff to request our dessert courses. They were fine, nothing exciting to report.
Overall, our experience was mediocre at best, and we will not be returning. With so many alternative dining options in and around Strasbourg, I would not recommend...
Read moreLovely floating restaurant near Strasbourg city center. We arrived without a proper reservation, but the waitress kindly arranged an additional table for us. The whole experience has been outstanding. The service was attentive and classy. The restaurant offers a selection of delicious cocktails that is a pleasure to enjoy while looking at the sunset from the glass wall. The dinner starts with a pleasant amouse Bouche composed of red cabbage salad and coriander. We tried the Asperges blanches d’Alsace and Croq’agneau as starters, the Raviolis de champignons & poireaux and the Abanico ibérique as main dishes and a selection of desserts. All the dishes were perfectly balanced, taste and texture wise. We found a creative and fresh cuisine that we absolutely recommend. Group-friendly, dog-friendly and the price matches very well with the quality of the experience. We paid 62 euros each....
Read moreA funky place! I agreed to join two French friends for dinner here, despite a roaring chest and sinus infection--but I'll spare you my symptoms!
Its unique layout -- on a boat moored on the river, with a glass floor to see the lower level -- was a knockout. And approaching it along the waterfront at night is a great introduction ( see my photo) So this, and the friendly waiters and well cooked interesting food, should have given it at least four stars. But alas, the expensive wine and small food portions were out of my league-- not an affordable night out for a family! Or for me.
But pay it a visit for a special occasion, or to impress your new date. It certainly...
