Up until last night, I enjoyed several days of the most friendly people and warm service in this wonderful city.
In contrast, Emile was a slice of Parisian attitude in Toulouse, and not in a good way.
The food was actually very good, if pushing the bounds of overpriced - we enjoyed the langoustine ravioli in a fabulous shellfish broth, and the pigeon was as tender as you could hope. Slight niggles with the other two dishes - tartare of langoustine mixed with a tartare of veal just didn't work, the shellfish was lost in it, and then fillets of tubot with truffle risotto ranged between perfectly cooked and overcooked, which is disappointing when they are charging 35 eurs for the pleasure. Still, the food isn't the main issue.
The real issue with this place is the staff. In contrast to their Toulouse brethren who welcomed us with love and warmth throughout the city's streets, cafes and restaurants, the team here (bar one young male waiter) behaved as if all happiness had long been sucked out of them and they took zero pleasure in hosting their guests. Cold, unfriendly and bordering on rude was the experience from booking (in person, a couple of days before) through to the dinner itself.

However, the overall experience was quite disappointing in the end which left me bewildered why it deserved a one Michelin star. It started off well as we managed to get seats even though we didnât make any prior booking. However, as the meal progressed, the experience deteriorated. First of all, being Asians, we didnât get much service versus the French or Westerns. Worst of all, we found a piece of PAPER in their signature duck leg cassoulet!!! Not much apology coming from the restaurant manager which left us pretty appalled by the attitude. The soufflĂ© was a saving grace for the meal but it was all too late. My take was the Michelin guide must be a French or the Michelin guide is a fluke which one should not trust in the end. By the way, this is not the first time my husband and I have visited a Michelin star restaurant but this one is going down as the worst...

Avant toute chose, la nourriture ne mĂ©rite surtout pas une Ă©toile, mais le service que nous avons reçu est en deçà de 0. Nous avons eu le droit Ă de nombreuses fautes de service de la part dâun serveur notamment : 1- Nous avons Ă©tĂ© installĂ© dehors sur une table en bord de route. AprĂšs avoir demandĂ© dâĂȘtre Ă lâintĂ©rieur, le serveur sâest agacĂ© en disant que lâintĂ©rieur Ă©tait rĂ©servĂ© (alors que nous avions aussi rĂ©servĂ©). Premier incident. 2- nous avons commandĂ© une bouteille de vin, quand je vois la bouteille arriver, je remarque que ce nâest pas le bon millĂ©sime. Je demande donc de changer, mais le serveur me dit quâils nâont pas eu le temps de changer les cartes (mais celui-ci ne mâa jamais prĂ©venu que le millĂ©sime nâĂ©tait pas le mĂȘme avant que je ne mâen aperçoive). 3- Lors de la dĂ©gustation du vin, je remarque que celui-ci est bien trop chaud. Je demande pourquoi et on me dit que la cave est chaude. Je demande comment une cave Ă vin peut-ĂȘtre trop chaude (cela pose beaucoup de questions quant Ă la conservation du vin dans cet Ă©tablissement). Le serveur ne me rĂ©pond mĂȘme pas et sâen va pendant que je lui parle. 4- Lors de la dĂ©gustation de mon plat, trois serveurs diffĂ©rents sont venus me demander si jâavais terminĂ©. Jâai eu lâimpression constante de manger sous pression. 5- Lors du paiement, nous avons remarquĂ© que le restaurant nous facturait deux desserts en plus. Nous avons demandĂ© de corriger la note. 6- Au moment de lâencaissement, le serveur avec qui nous avons eu tous les problĂšmes nous fait payer. Le montant encaissĂ© Ă©tait erronĂ©. Nous avons payĂ© 30⏠de plus que le montant dĂ». Jâai directement remarquĂ© lâerreur et averti, le serveur sâest Ă©nervĂ© puis est parti en caisse et câest le chef de salle qui nous a donnĂ© la diffĂ©rence. Le serveur qui a fait lâerreur nâest jamais venu sâexcuser. Nous avons fait part de notre mĂ©contentement du service. En somme, le service a gĂąchĂ© terriblement la rĂ©putation du Restaurant Emile.
