Saintonge — Restaurant in Vichy

We were looking for a café to drink something and have a piece of cake or crepe with it. The waiter was in a hurry to clear the tables and barely looked at us when he asked what we wanted. I asked for the menu and got the answer that the kitchen was closed already. I asked to have the menu to chose a coffee but he wasn't willing to bring them and instead told us that water, lemonade and coffee was all we could get. No, no cake or crepe. And off he went to clear off more tables. Having lived in France for more than two years I can't confirm the prejudice of unfriendly French waiters but this one was a black sheep. Nous voulions quitter Vichy sur un bon p'tit repas dans un resto. Celui prévu n'étant disponible, nous avons décidé d'aller au Saintonge car la veille nous y apprécié de prendre un verre en terrasse, et regardant les avis sur Google, un peu surpris d'y voir des commentaires négatifs sur le service alors que justement nous trouvions le serveur assez sympa. La carte me tentait bien avec des plats simple d'une brasserie. Donc installés cette fois à l'intérieur car le temps était un peu frais, nous avons tranquillement pris un apéro en choisissant sur la carte. Et nous n'avons pas été déçus de nos choix, car ma chérie s'est laissée tenter pour goûter une tête de veau sauce gribiche que j'ai pu aussi goûter car je n'avais jamais osé commander ce plat. C'était franchement excellent...et moi j'avais pris un saucisson lyonnais sauce vinaigre d'échalotes également délicieux, peut-être pas assez de sauce. Ces 2 plats avec le même accompagnement de haricots verts, carottes et pommes de terre grenaille (14€ chacun) suivis d'une gaufre Nutella (4,9€) et tarte citron meringuée (6€), et 2 verre d'un très bon vin rouge du cru st Pourçain. Étonnés par l'accent du sympathique serveur qui en plus avait beaucoup d'humour, nous lui avons demandé si il était d'origine belge ou alsacienne...il nous a bien surpris en nous précisant qu'il était des USA et plus précisément de Détroit. Slow service, waiters are just talking at all times... location is great but the prices are typically high at that spot. Great for looking at people passing by, for taking a break through the VICHY life style... You will pay around 3€ for a drink no matter with alcohol or nonalcoholic.
