Emessa Lokma in Aachen is a hidden treasure for anyone craving authentic Syrian cuisine. From the moment you step in, you’re greeted with a warm atmosphere, friendly smiles, and the delicious scent of freshly grilled meats and spices.

The mezze selection was a perfect way to start — their hummus is velvety smooth, the baba ghanoush smoky and rich, and the tabbouleh crisp and lemony. The falafel is golden, crunchy on the outside, and soft on the inside — easily some of the best I’ve had.

I ordered the mixed grill plate, and it was absolutely spot-on. The shish tawook and lamb kofta were grilled to juicy perfection, served with fluffy rice and freshly baked Syrian bread, still warm from the oven. Every bite was full of flavor and care.

What really stood out was the hospitality. The staff at Emessa Lokma are genuinely kind, attentive, and proud of their food. They took the time to explain the dishes and even treated us to a taste of their signature lokma — sweet, crispy, and soaked in just the right amount of syrup. A perfect end to the meal.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Emessa, and it turned out to be a delightful experience that I feel compelled to share.

Upon entering, the language barrier with the waiter added an element of excitement as we navigated through the menu. Despite the communication challenge, we took a leap of faith and asked for recommendations. The waiter confidently assured us that everything on the menu was top-notch, setting high expectations for our lunch.

To our delight, the dishes exceeded those expectations. The hummus was velvety, the kebabs were diverse and succulent, accompanied by a fresh salad and perfectly cooked rice. The serving size was generous, making the 23 euros per head well worth it. I was highly disappointed today when i went to this place. My husband and I felt tremendously embarrassed and humiliated at this place. As we are new to Germany and our deutsch is not very good at the moment. We asked for pizza at this place and the waiter immediately refused us that there is no pizza when it was right in-front of us in the restaurant. It’s not even about the fact that there was pizza or not, it’s about how he stood there laughed at us and said “No Deutsch, No pizza”. We have been here one time before and he didn’t serve us any cutlery or anything but they could understand English. He looked down at us and he just walked away.
