Kreislauf des Geldes — Attraction in Aachen

The Circulation of Money is a fascinating and thought-provoking public scuplture. The artwork is not just a visual piece - it's a conceptual commentary on economics, capitalism, and the flow of wealth in modern society.

The scuplture features a circular stainless steel basin with water flowing in a continuous loop - symbolizing the movement of money in the economy. Embedded in the basin are bronze replicas of Euro coins and German Marks, seemingly "floating" or swirling with the water. The water is pumped in a closed circuit, creating a never-ending flow - a metaphor for constant circulation of capital. The circular design reflects economic cycles: earning, spending, saving, investing, and returning.

It invites viewers to think: "Where does moneu come from? Where does it go? Who controls its flow?" The use of realistic coin replicas also hints at economic change, nostalgia, and the impermanence of value. The flowing water represents both the fluidity of money and its intangible nature in a digital age.

Some locals jokingly toss real coins into the fountain, making wishes - even though the artwork already contains fake money. This adds an ironic layer: people are literally adding real money to a sculpture about money.

Today's power flows not through crowns, but through cash and credit.

Als ich mir den anno 1976 von Karl-Henning Seeman geschaffenen Brunnen mit dem Titel "Der Kreislauf des Geldes" näher anschaute, badete gerade ein kleiner Junge in dem warmen Thermalwasser.

Der sogenannte Geldbrunnen befindet sich in unmittelbarer Nähe des Elisenparks, und zwar in der Hartmannstraße.

Ich wurde an einem Sonntag im Juli 2025 Zeugin davon, wie die verschiedenen Mitglieder einer Familie auf eine spezielle Art und Weise eine Münze in das Wasser warfen - und sich dabei etwas wünschten.

Der Brunnen wird ungleichmäßig umrundet von einem Ensemble aus Bronzeplastiken, die sich um das flache Becken aus Beton verteilen. Das Wasser dreht sich gegen den Uhrzeigersinn, also in Richtung des dargestellten Geldflusses.

Die verschiedene Figuren des Brunnens stellen den namensgebenden Geldkreislauf dar und haben in ihren gezeigten Handlungen alle mit Geld zu tun. So stellen sie den Geiz, die Gier, die Gönnerhaftigkeit und die Bettelei dar. Zusätzlich wird gezeigt, wie ein Kind seinem Vater beim beim Zählen des Geldes zuschaut.
