My girlfriend and I moved to Erlangen, Germany last year (from Canada) and were feeling a bit homesick. We found this place online and decided to get some poutine for Canada day. It was by far the best poutine we've ever had outside of Montreal. Despite not having access to cheese curds, it was astonishingly delicious.
We had a chat with the owner, Ben, who to our surprise was also a Canadian. It may just because we're feeling homesick, but talking with him was even better than the food. He was very nice, bringing out a table for us, chatting with us after we ate, and even offering to show us the city. Ben's classic Canadian warm personality and fantastic food made this one of the best experiences we've had in Germany so far.
If you've never had poutine before, or if you're just craving some good food, this is absolutely the place for you. It is very rare that you find a place that has food that matches the hospitality (in a good way). If you are in Bamberg, or are even just near by, do yourself a huge favour and go to The Box. It changed our entire perspective of the city of Bamberg.
Thank you again, Ben, for one of the best evenings we've...
Read moreHeard about this place a little while back and thought we‘d give it a try. Husband had ‚the meat eater‘, I had ‚the helen‘.
My husband asked for nothing but meat, fries and sauce (the meatatarian…) and the serving was good but about 3/4 of what mine was, meaning that the portion wasn’t made up for by what he asked them to not put on.
Flavors are great, although the pulled pork could have a bit more ‚pow‘ from a good bbq sauce, not crazy, but a tad bit more wouldn’t hurt!
The eco friendly packaging is appreciated and even after sitting for a couple hours didn’t totally disintegrate.
Unfortunately no in- or outdoor seating, except for one table three feet over by another place and it was dirty so we decided to eat in our car. Bit of a bummer but oh well. We might...
Read moreWhen the beloved Ron Telesky's Canadian Pizza permanently closed in Berlin, I was distraught... What's a misplaced auslander in search of Canadian comfort food to do? .... Take that 49 euro ticket and get on 5 regional Bahn trains in 7.5 hours later and you will arrive at The Box, a poutine extravaganza in a box! 'Better than any Poutine you can get in Eastern Canada' says Mike, the owner ( okay that's probably not his real name, but there's a 80% probably it could be cuz what Canadian dude isn't called Mike 🤷🏻♀️) ... Anyway the Poutine was fantastic and worth all the train rides and random friends made along the way ...AND! depending on which part of Canada you say you are from, Mike will add or subtract 15% from your bill! Choose wisely...
