Shockingly rude staff! I'm a single woman who has dined alone innumerable times in my life, especially when traveling on business. But I've never been treated so rudely as I was here. They asked if I had a reservation, which I understood: It was a Friday night. I said, "No", & proceeded to stand there while he hemmed & hawed . . . Finally he said, "You can sit, but you have one hour." Ordinarily, I would have left immediately; but I had just arrived in Berlin, was tired & my hotel had no restaurant. The staff spoke to other guests in German but spoke to me in Italian. (I speak both but had focused on German for months before this trip & was struggling with Italian). I had to wave one of them down to bring me a glass of wine & then to get someone to take my order. While I waited for my food, I noticed they were telling others about specials. No one told me there were specials. The food was good, but what a lousy experience. The restaurant was never full, by the way. When I finally got the attention of one of them to ask for a check, he asked if I wanted dessert. I said, "You said I had 1 hour to eat, so there's no time for dessert." He said, "No, it's OK. We have time." I paid & left. Do...
Read moreWe visited this Italian restaurant and ordered the antipasto of formaggi and salumi, the spaghetti allo scoglio, and tiramisu.
Both my girlfriend and I are Italian, and quite picky when it comes to salumi and cheeses. Unfortunately, the antipasto plate didn’t meet our expectations. The selection of cured meats was limited to just Salame Milano and Mortadella, and the cheeses were only two types, both rather average. The grilled vegetables and oil-preserved sides were a nice touch though and tasted good.
The spaghetti allo scoglio, on the other hand, was excellent. Generous portion, perfectly cooked pasta, and the seafood was fresh and well-prepared. The sauce tied everything together really well. A solid main dish.
Tiramisu was also good, and the portion was huge. Definitely one to share if you’re already full from the rest of the meal.
One downside that left a bitter taste, however, was being asked if we could pay in cash. While they did eventually accept card payment, we both find this kind of request off-putting and unnecessary, especially in 2025. For that reason, we're giving 3 stars instead of 4, otherwise, it would’ve been a well-deserved 4-star...
Read moreI've lived nearby for a couple years. The service is very Italian, the servers can seem inattentive but this is because they might assume people want to enjoy their table and be left alone if you do not wave them down. On my first visit I was a little annoyed as I am used to American style service but then I got used to it.
The food is very good, they have some expensive items on the menu but their less expensive options are also excellent. The carbonara is one of the cheapest items and I am borderline obsessed with it. It is the best carbonara I have ever had and nothing is really close. The Pasta Norma is also great, the execution of these basic pasta dishes really makes this place stand out above the other Italian places we've tried around Prenzlauer Berg and...
