The menu here was good, entries are printed in German with English subtitles and explanations beneath each item, which made ordering quite convenient. The owner seemed polite, took our orders and recommended meals and brought us our food. The food was okay, in a three-star kind of way, as was the desert.
However, at the end of the meal, despite the fact that the door was plastered with credit card stickers, the owner refused to take any of our credit cards, and required payment in cash. Needless to say, if I did not have enough cash, that would have been quite disastrous. The language barrier prevented me from asking why, and I doubt the owner would have offered an explanation even if I could have asked. It seemed that he had just decided that because we were foreigners, and didn't speak German, that he was going to be grumpy and require cash.
To me, that is the worst kind of bait and switch. If I had not had the cash, the evening could have ended with the police. All because an owner chose to not take a credit card, all because of apparent prejudice.
Needless to say, I cannot recommend any restaurant, in any city, where the owner has been seen to use such tactics, to anyone... no matter how good the food might otherwise have been.
It is with deep sadness that I recommend avoiding this restaurant completely, or, at best, be sure that you have more than enough cash before...
Read moreThe overall experience was an easy 11/10. We chose this place for our last meal in Berlin, and we truly couldn’t have asked for anything better. The location is great — close to the zoo and the main shopping area — and the restaurant itself is charming, with a warm and inviting atmosphere.
We were welcomed by the owner, who was not only incredibly polite but also cheerful and playful. He personally showed us to a beautiful table by the window and handed us the menu. What really stood out was his attention to detail: he even offered to show us pictures of the dishes to make sure we ordered exactly what we had in mind, this details are what, in my opinion, set an experience apart from the othes.
The menu is exactly what a Berlin restaurant menu should be — not overwhelming, but carefully curated with a selection of authentic local dishes. This ensures that every plate is prepared with care and quality. The prices felt very fair, and the tap beers were excellent — such a great choice to accompany the meal.
Thank you for having us. We hope to be back as soon...
Read moreDefinitely won't go back again and I recommend you don't go, either. I'm staying at a hotel nearby and the hotel recommended this German food restaurant. The waiter started to recommend specials for the day by showing me pictures of a few courses on an ipad. He didn't even bring the menu. Maybe he thinks my English is poor coz' I'm Chinese? ( Unfortunately my English is better than most Germans as I was the top English learner in China and I've been living in Australia for 14 years.) Anyway, out of trust and courtesy, I went with one of his recommendations for a pork dish only realised it was pork mincemeat when it was served. It was so salty and the cabbage wrapped up the pork mince was no good, either. I wouldn't have been able to eat any of it without the help of the German dark beer. I left the waiter the change as tip despite the poor experience. I'm in Berlin on holiday for another few days and will never go back again. I would have gone back to try a few more dishes if they had been good. I recommend you don't go there either especially if you...
