The quintessential Berlin Kniepe (neighborhood bar/restaurant). Open 24/7, I stumbled upon Café Belmont when I was struck with hunger at 2:30 in the morning. In no time I had a drink, weißwurst and some delicious potato salad. I then made a point of visiting a few more times during my last visit to Berlin. The food is typical German fare and quite good, a great array of beers and a full bar with a friendly bartender, all reasonably priced. But the real charm is that the Belmont is a magnet for the locals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and through the night - I never found it empty. The place have Shirov and Kramnik photo on walls, apparently at least one of these great players have been there. I still don't understand if Russian we spoke was the reason, or general attitude that the place doesn't like foreigners were the reason that we felt unwelcomed in this place.
