Brauhaus Südstern — Restaurant in Berlin

Brauhaus Südstern had a pretty good atmosphere when I stepped in, quiet and mysterious with amber coloured lighting.

Food was served fast and fresh, very nicely cooked and delicious. Dessert came in the form of cherry cream, which was unexpectedly sweet and scrumptious. Drinks are on the downside though. Plain water was free, but 200ml of soft drink costed 2.20 Euros.

Atmosphere and decor was excellent, as I have said before, and creates a pretty good ambience. Brick walls and wooden furniture gives it a cottage like feel to it, and with the bar situated in front, the overall layout and design is pretty nice to appreciate.

Service was friendly and fast, though occasional mess-ups did occur. Still they did their part to fix the issue.

Overall a good place to have a meal at if you are in Berlin. Not a must, but definitely a...

An unexpected direct hit after warming up in the Destille pub: suddenly there it was, like an oasis of green hop on the edge of the equally green Hasenheide. The alcohol level was already in the cozy upper floor, the mood somewhere between Sunday and after work. Inside: gleaming copper kettles, home-brewed happiness and service staff with patience. We sipped, chatted and philosophized. After all, beer makes you smart. Next to us were a couple of ladies who suspiciously often had to go to the loo, but well, everyone has their hobbies. Da wir zu 8 waren, haben wir rechtzeitig im Vorfeld telefonisch reserviert. Doch als erstes wurde die Tischreservierung verschlampt, so dass wir nach 10 Minuten warten erst mitten im Raum platziert wurden, um dann weitere 10 Minuten später mit der Knallerbegründung der Nachbartisch will tanzen, noch mal umgesetzt zu werden. Kein guter Start. Und getanzt auch niemand. Gab zwar einen Schnaps auf das Haus, aber das konnte dann auch nichts mehr reißen, denn nach weiterem sehr langen Warten an kahlen, lustlos zusammengewürfelten und ungedeckten Tischen, war das Essen lauwarm (bzw. die Beilage sogar eiskalt). Etliche Essen waren vertauscht, bzw. gänzlich falsch und mussten dann nochmals bestellt werden. Wir saßen so gedrängt und eng, dass meinem Tischnachbarn sogar beim Schnitzel schneiden der Teller vom Tisch geklappt ist. Eine Katastrophe. Dazu laut, innen ungemütlich und null weihnachtlich (bis auf die Minispeisekarte). Die Bedienungen waren sichtbar keine ausgebildeten Servierkräfte, zwar freundlich, aber vollkommen überfordert und zum Bezahlen musste man dann noch anstehen an der Kasse. Für das Gebotene ein absolut überzogenes, teures Preisniveau. Insgesamt vermittelt der Laden so den Flair einer Tourifalle. Als Berliner kommt man sich da verschaukeln vor. Dabei gab es schon nur eine sehr kurze Weihnachtsspeisekarte mit einer handvoll an Gerichten (was ja eigentlich ein Qualitätsmerkmal ist).
