papaya am Südstern — Restaurant in Berlin

After saying I'm allergic, they brought me my order with the ingredient I specifically banned. I reminded them and they took it away bringing me a "new" one. After eating the half of it I noticed it still had this ingredient (they just took it out from the first plate, it wasn't cooked again without it nor removed properly) and I could have eaten some of it. When I pointed this out to the manager, remarking that I was almost full term pregnant and this practice could have been very dangerous for me and my baby if I get an allergic reaction, his first answer, without explanation or apology, was that I should go to the hospital if something happens and then give them a call (??). When I complained against such a reckless and unprofessional reply, he went completely nuts and started yelling at me in front of all other guests and my younger son, even kicking me out of the restaurant. Altough I was calm and polite the whole discussion (at the end I said I didn't want to discuss further, among other things because he was scaring my son), he kept yelling at me and at some point I thought he could...

If you have kids, better choose another place. Families are definitely not welcome here.The host doesn't know anything about true hospitality. And he was a bully towards his staff. The place should better be called "hostility" or "I hate children and their parents". The chef acted very hostile towards my fiancé, my old parents and my little daughter of nearly two years. He complained that she spilled rice on the floor. He patronized and lectured us that we didn't teach her how to behave. She behaved just fine but is too young to keep every piece of rice on her plate. And I won't yell at her or beat her to make her the infant he could accept. I assume that would be his method. Although food was good, I can't recommend this place...

Calm atmosphere suitable for groups of calm people, not pretentious or "fancy", but a little nicer (and a little more expensive) than the typical Berlin Thai place.

Quick, friendly service and tasty food. Nothing truly amazing in terms of flavor, but clearly prepared with competence. The papaya salad is fine, but not as good as that found at the Preußen Park in Wilmersdorf on weekends. There's a weird mismatch between the size of the ladle provided with the fire pot and the heated vessel itself, making it difficult to get the food out...
